just got IL2FB... can't get the padlock view to turn on, or haven't a clue how to use it. Tried using the menu commands (Y,U, alt f6, F4 etc) nothing seems to work, am I missing something here? I have no idea where my targets are, or how to help my buddy aircraft 3 who's got a bogey on his 6... tried searching the forum, but it keeps bringing up a thousand threads for "lockon"... also, these are default settings..... anyone? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

It's just F6.

I wouldn't join any club that would have ME as member!

Each time you start a campaign or quick mission go into the difficulty settings. Those are your keys to gradually learning from arcade to "realistic". There is a switch that defaults to padlock off. Start a new campaign and switch it on. Also, experiment with the others since you are new. As ELEM said F6 is your in-game key.

In your game you can define what you want your commands to be.

When I first started flying FB, I used padlock (F6) and a command called "Instant View Forward with Padlock" (default is NumPad Insert). I assigned them to my joystick (click to the right of the command with your mouse to reassign) which helped me a lot back then.

When I would padlock, I would push the padlock key (obviously) when I would want to look forward (to see where I was flying) I would PUSH AND HOLD the "Instant View Forward with Padlock" which made padlock much easier, because when I felt uneasy about my relation to the ground, I could quickly hit and hold this button to so I could fly, then release it to snap back to the bandit.

I'm not sure how many padlockers use this technique, but when I used to use P/L I found it helped a lot...

how about just putting the triangle over the enemy a/c with a direction finder... kinda like CFS? I don't like the external view, I'd rather be "in the cockpit" fighting... can't seem to get it to work... thanks, you guys are quick!

I don't think that's possible. Have a good look through the 'controls' section. You will find many, many possible useful commands that it's possible to configure. I have enemy padlock on the stick. Be warned though that there are those around here who grumble and develop a stern look at the mention of the word 'padlock'!

Hey Raven... thanks for the tip. I've never got into using the padlock because I didn't like not being able to see where I was flying.

I'm goint to try mapping the "Instant View Forward with Padlock" button to my stick and see how I get on with that in offline missions where I don't use icons.
