Dear Fellow Explorers:

Good afternoon from Canada! I hope this finds you and yours well.

I find that I'm needing instruction on how to move about within the Cleft. Movements like getting to the other ledges and the next Journey Cloth, etc. The listing of movements they have at the beginning of the demo isn't helping at all. Any kind souls out there willing to help a new slightly lost explorer?

Thank you kindly and take care!!

Sincerely yours always,

Salome. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Um, the information they gave in the beginning is about all there is. Except for that awesome run-jump combo, though (while running, press jump!).
Some of the collapsed rope bridges can be used as ladders; your avatar will automatically climb onto them as you approach.

Hi,
In the demo, there is a help menu, in the lower right corner of the screen. Click ?.

First click on the ? (in the ? menu) for "Quick help". You can see the basic navigation - hold down the up arrow key to move forward, the down arrow key to move backward, the left arrow key to rotate left, and the right arrow key to rotate right. Pressing the shift key and the up arrow key to run. Press the space bar to jump. The menu also shows you how to move your avatar with the mouse.

Press function key F1 to toggle between first person view (you don't see your avatar) to third person view (you see your avatar).

If you press caps lock, then hold down up arrow key, your avatar will run (no need to press the shift key) until you press caps lock again.

You can remap the controls via the Keymap menu.

I think you know the basic movements but are having a bit of trouble putting them into practice. See if this helps.

- Switch between 1st and 3rd person (F1), until you figure out which playing style works bets for you. I generally play in 3rd person, unless I want to see what's right in front of my face - they I switch to 1st person. It feels like I have more control when I can see my avatar - I can inch along on a plank! It might be different for you.
- If you get close enough to a journey cloth and start clicking around it, you'll see a target like circle on the journey cloth. Click on that to "touch" the cloth. Bet you knew that already!
- If you get close enough to a ladder and click on the arrow key, your avatar will start climbing up or down the ladder. As dividertabs said, the collapsed bridges function as ladders. If it looks like it could be a ladder, generally it works as a ladder.
- There are a couple of basic movements to master. I'll describe them in terms of the keyboard, not mouse
* walk (up arrow key)
* run (shift, up arrow key)
* jump (space bar)
* walk jump (up arrow key and space bar)
* run jump (up arrow key and shift key, then space bar) An easier way is to press caps lock, then press the up arrow kay and the space bar.

When you are trying to get to a particular journey cloth, see what works for you. If you want to get over a bridge with some mssing planks, try a run jump, or a walk jump. In getting to a ledge, look around (switch between 1st and 3rd person) to see if there is a path. Perhaps you can climb up a ladder, then walk over a plank, then jump down a big step to get to an open door. That's an example.

Hope this helps.

don't forget you can remap your keys to ones more convenient for you.

as an old FPS'er, i prefer to remap my walk keys to the standard:
W(up)
A(down)
S(left)
D(right)
Q(sidestep left)
E(sidestep right)

that allows me to use my mouse for:
Run (Left and Right Buttons pressed together)
Backwards (Scroll button).

also, in the SP game, i can use my mouse to click to where ever i want to go. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif but you have to check that option in your Options. i like that feature a lot and find myself trying to do it in the online game, where i can't for some reason. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

lotsa options for playstyles is a good thing.
