As you requested, ive recorded a video of our recent "exercise" regarding Fall (you know which one). http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

As you will see, Canada's new Leopard 2 A6M tanks are being tested for full functionality and will soon be deployed via the Netherlands according to our "agreement". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Soon Canada will have the "capabilities" it needs to meet its demands for "muarsnebel" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

As you wished , the test targets were Ab....i mean old T-72's and BMP's. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

...Who needs a bridge for OPERATION BRAUNSWIEGER...When we have a whole division that doesn't need a road to get to the battlefield...

...Wow, Denmark has some nice departure airfields...Perhaps we could catch a Jazz Fest before our 'Visit' to Germany! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

...by the way, notice the cute loadmaster who keeps on blowing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif... ahem, across HER fingers to tell the Jumpmaster what the ground crosswinds are ... 5 knots and holding. It could be 17 knots as long as she is holding me! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Ive always expected that the main force of operation Braunschweiger would come from above http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Shortly before the jump, it looks if the jumpmaster turns around and says "Cant we just forget this whole thing and fly home ?" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Is that the S... word which he is yelling out at touchdown ? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I assume that belongs to the standart procedures . http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The one behind the jumpmaster seems to secure the jumpmasters yellow parachute release line all the time. Who secures the ones from the others ? He too or each man behind ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Regarding that bridge :

Article (http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2651109,00.html)

You should know what happened last time you tried something bridge related that was supposed to be your way into germany http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

We call the "touchdown" a Parachute Landing Fall or PLF

Here's a good primer...
http://www.dukesofwindsoar.com/dukes.cgi?do=html&htmlfi...te_landing_fall.html (http://www.dukesofwindsoar.com/dukes.cgi?do=html&htmlfile=html/ppg_info/parachute_landing_fall.html)

Of course we used to say, any PLF that you walk away from is a "Good" PLF. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

...And the unofficial sixth point of performance is to discreetly relieve yourself since you've been holding it for about 4 hours and the darn Air Force don't have bathrooms on board. I have painful bladder syndrome ... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

he's called a "Safety" and must also be Jumpmaster qualified. He collects all the "static lines" for his side of the aircraft as the jumpers exit the door. Basically he keeps the static lines from getting entangled with the jumper and other jumpers. Plus he's there to help the Jumpmaster during his commands. And he does a "Clear to the rear" after all jumpers exit to ensure their are no towed jumpers.

The Silent_O performed duties of a "Safety" during this operation, Chalk 19, Left door:
Operation Just Cause (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Just_Cause)

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif We Americans consider our portion of Operation Market Garden a success, after all we got 2 of the 3 Bridgeheads. It was our ally that seemed to have a little problem with securing the third one up at Arnhem. 101st Airborne got Eindhoven, and MY 82nd Airborne got the bridge at Nijmegen...

The_Silent_O also attended the 50th anniversery of that Operation. Good Stuff http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Would've replied earlier but tech problem.
Market Garden...... right or wrong decision, I dont care about generals - either those with 2 cap badges or those with 2 six shooter's and I'm not going to go there except to say does Celeon know what would have happened if it had worked?..........
On behalf of 'your ally' sorry to have let you and 'your 82nd' down old chap, next time I see some of 'my' vet's I must remember to tell them they should've tried harder.
I went to Duxford yesterday, Flying Legends, bought a signed print of 2 Mustangs at low level and I gladly paid extra for the 4 USAAF ex Mustang vet pilots who were there to sign it. My 13 year old son was with me and we both shook their hands and I thanked them 'for being there', meaning on the team not just the field.
It was a joint op that failed, our blokes died trying it, thats it, it was a team effort. If the defence fails and the other guys run in a touchdown are the offence and special teams bleating about we did our bit but you let us down?.
I may be mistaken but I take the view the guys who did get to Arnhem bridge did what was expected of them and more and 'we won our part of the game but you lost yours' is an affront to their memory. They did what they were told to do as soldiers - whatever the reason the goal wasn't acheived.
BTW, 'our' above refers to US, British, Polish, Dutch and whoever the hell else died trying it, all the soldiers and airmen that died, not just one nations.
I hope I've not taken the thread the wrong way, I've been following it and had found it amusing.
If I have I apologise but it reads like an us and them pitch when I thought it was 'us', the allies, against 'them' the Axis not elements on the same team.
Forty Rounds Sir!.........

Here are some more key scenes from "A bridge too far" Excellent movie by the way http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

The "O's" allies and comerades going for that bridge at Nijmegen http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Hardy Krüger in the role of the commander that talks to the Field Marshall

By the way : The radioman actor is definitly not german , sounds like german with a nice thick dutch accent to me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Also notice, in the end, he calls the town "Arnhem" (the dutch name) and not "Arnheim" like we germans say. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Taking Nijmegen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj6sbcyVsqw&mode=related&search=)

The "O" will love this one : The first drop of Market Garden.

Maximillian Shell http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif His subtitles are missing but he says "Phantastic, just a single time i would like to have such masses of material under my command"

The first drop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfv-19f8ZG8&mode=related&search=)

Our first assault on that Arnheim bridge wasnt that successful either.

Waffen SS tries to retake Arnheim. First attempt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiiUJ4sDuX0&mode=related&search=)

Now you've gone and done it, Celeon, by showing me that video. Now I have a strange twitching in my right leg and arm; my right leg is jumping up and down while my right arm shoots straight out and for some reason I am singing these words...

Ob's stürmt oder schneit,
Ob die Sonne uns lacht,
Der Tag glühend heiß
Oder eiskalt die Nacht.
Bestaubt sind die Gesichter,
Doch froh ist unser Sinn,
Ist unser Sinn;
Es braust unser Panzer
Im Sturmwind dahin.

Ah yes i almost forgot to post another portion of "A bridge too far"

It seems most of that movie was posted by several people on youtube.

Von Rundstedt takes command (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch56NAL1C-I)

Sadly youtube does not offer the other scene in which they discuss who might be commanding the advancing u.s troops.

"What do you think ?"

"Patton"

"Patton...."

"Yes , they surely gave that task to Patton"

I have the highest respect for our fellow british airborne, then and now. I did not mean to offend. But as you stated, some bad decisions above the warfighter level.

Hmm...perhaps if it did work, we may have made it to Berlin before the Soviets??? I don't know but it would have been interesting to see what might have happened.

Ehhhm....dont know.... Quite likely that we would had traded the cold war with a quick escalation into a hot one this way.
