Hello everyone,

Please view: http://www.dreyermachine.com/il2/

I started this a long time ago, however after becoming sick I went dormant and stopped playing for a while. Over the last 4 days I've caught up again however (lots of free time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) and I've now reached 100 victories without a single death.

If you want any decent online tracks of the various Luftwaffe fighters there are over 50 available tracks for download on my website.

Please view: http://www.dreyermachine.com/il2/

Thank you,

Regards,

Plenty of aces were shot down and returned to combat. Does that make them any less skilled? He still did a really cool job, especially when you consider that many online pilots have many more hours than the average fighter pilot in WWII.

so you play online df, online coop, or offline campaign?

anyway a huge achievement! and it is by itself a nice work to keep track of your progress http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think I will try to do the same on day, I hope in this summer http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Impressive!

One caveat though, how often do you fly in missions where there is a clearly defined objective and/or with a wingman. I know it might be outside your interest, but since I sense a wish to sort of relive what it was like to be a fighter pilot in WWII, might flying with a specific objective in mind and/or wingmen add yet another dimension?

Good job though and more power to you. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Dreyer, why do you make tutorials (commented, I mean) with those tracks? Would be a great help for newbies (and for veterans). I love the FB tutorials, but they lack of dogfight techniques. Some humanvshuman commented dogfights, explaining the different techniques are what this game need since the original IL-2.

Hello everyone and thanks for your feedback!

FatBoyHK: Online DF. About 75% of those victories are made from playing on War Clouds - 67.18.111.250:21000

Jetbuff: That does sound like a lot of fun. So far I've only flew in DF Online Public servers like War Clouds. Having a wingman would sure help make things easier, however it takes a lot of time to organize such things.

luke97: If you are interested, yeah, I think I'll make a few tutorials! Not sure if I'm qualified to teach others but I'll give it a try.

Vipez-: Probably way too hard and would take wayyy to much time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I watched your 6 kill mission on the Balaton map on Warclouds and I'm really surprised how many of your targets where half asleep.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to rain on your parade I've just never seen so many sleepy targets on Warclouds who don't check their 6. I wish I came across players like that more often http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif You must have some hypnotic effect on your prey.

I'm entirely the opposite I fly just like you but seem to attract the enemy from affar. I've even got tracks as proof that there is something about me that the enemy senses. In these tracks you can see planes peel off from an engagement with other planes to go after me even if I'm flying high and fast and get away from them.

I'm not any easier a target than the one they were chasing. But they are attracted to me like bees to honey, I suppose it just makes me more cautious. It doesn't mean I get shot down a lot it just means I get chased a hell of a lot.

Plus I'll bounce my target from the low six in the blindspot but they always seem to know I'm coming.

Anyway good work and one word of advice: Do yourself a favour and get TrackIR! It will make your Hartmann Attempt twice as easy.

Hello Xnomad!

I know what you mean and believe you me I have plenty of tracks flying B&Z style where I get absolutely zero kills http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif In order to score 6 victories in that manner in a sortie you almost have to rely on the enemy giving you some easy shots. I'm not sure how you fly but I would love to watch some of your tracks! If you need somewhere to upload them I can provide you with a FTP.

I've wondered if I should get TrackIR before, I'm just not sure if it will actually be an upgrade to my play! When you see me fly I put my "scroll speed" to maximum so that I can keep track of aircraft easily when flying close dogfights etc. With TrackIR is it possible to QUICKLY look back and then look forward again? It just sounds so slow compared to the keypad.

Ah, I remember those tracks you posted about the A9 a few months back. I remembered I learned a lot from those. It's great to see that you have more up, I'll be sure to dl them.

Congrats on the 100 kills my man. Anyone who says that you don't deserve it because you got shot down and bailed (no one has yet, but these forums can become rather...hot at times) is an idiot because, as already stated, many aces got shot down and I believe Hartmann was shot down 13 times. Once again, congrats.

If you ever are looking to fly with a wingman, I'm in VFS22 and fly often on Warclouds (not in the past month or so, but my activity is starting up again) If I see you on comms I'll be sure to get on your wing! Sounds like fun to me...let me know what you think.

Well if you read in my rules most of those will be voided. I've had one lag death where my computer totally froze up once I was attacking someone. It came back like 10 seconds later and I had crashed on the ground. That's actually happened twice but the first time I was flying straight and nothing really happened anyhow.

Getting vulched is really not a problem; I won't take off if I see it is too dangerous.

Well done! This is in no way a flame but have just read an article about a P51 flyer who is fighting for his life after a crash at an airshow. I had the misfortune to witness a fatal accident at an airshow once,,, and it changed the way I look at this GAME. As I said no disrespect meant at all but that is what it is after all, a game. Still well done and sorry if I pi**** on your Strawberries.

With Track IR you can snap back and forth very quickly especially with TrackIR 2 and higher.

The great thing about TrackIR is that you know where your head is so you can look away to check your six and immediatley switch your view back to your target by rembering where your head position was it just feels natural. With snap views you switch to set view points whereas TrackIR you can pan with your target and follow him, and keep him exactly in the centre of your vision.

As for hosting my tracks no thanks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I can host them myself but I would be too embarassed to do so.

A lot of the time I decide to record an online flight I jinx myself and get hit with a lot of bad luck, they might be entertaining tracks but they would be more of an anthology of mishaps and misfortunes than a record of success like you have http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I'm my worst enemy, I switch on the recording and get a mental block I'm the same with golf, I don't do well under pressure. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif It' a shame as the missions I've been really proud of would have made great tracks but they are so rare and I record once in a blue moon. Xnomad,

Thanks for the information bud. A few more questions. 1.) After playing for a while will you stress your neck? 2.) How much head movement do you need to perform to actually look around? 3.) What happends if I take a look at my TV that sits 90 degree's to my left? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That's ok http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif One solution to your mental block while recording; Always record. I hit the quick record button everytime before take-off every single time. Does not seem to decrease performance any and the .ntrk file is pretty small.

I did have a look at a couple of your tracks and think that is part of the prob, I'm not playing online enough anymore! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Really wetted my appetite again although feel as if I have to go through all the "noob" bit again now. In the 29/5/2004 track were the 2 Spits Mkv's or IX's, would you know by their performance dogfighting them like that. I ask because am pretty used to the Mkv now, will I get my but kicked badly in one of these do you think?

Thx

Hello Lucius,

I tried one of the Spitfire models back in 2.00 a few months back. I actually have a track from it here: http://www.dreyermachine.com/il2/ntrk/Spitfire_5kill.ntrk (works with the 2.01 patch)

In my opinion the Spitfire is a better dogfighter than the 109G2 or G6/AS models, but not by much. The most important thing is always to do the right thing at the right time. Recognizing the correct decision in any given situation will beat your enemy even if his aircraft performs better. Or better yet understanding what situations you are able to pull out on top in a fight and when you're better off to run. The biggest difference between a good pilot and someone not as good is their ability to pick the fight and set it up on their own conditions. Most turn fights are won and lost before the turning even begins.

Take a look at my Spitfire track, that was my first time ever flying the bird and I pretty much applied my knowledge from flying the 109 and it appeard to be very successfull.

First off, congrats!
Second (and I don't want to offend anybody now): are there more unexperienced players nowadays on War Clouds? I didn't fly in over a month, and I remember that even the greatest pilots got shot down themselves after 5-10 kills.
But anyway, great achievment. With me it was rather 100x killed with 0 kills :-)

I haven't heard anyone say they got a tired neck from it. How much you want to move your head is entirely up to you and how you set it up. I would say you move your head as much as you would while driving a car and checking your mirrors etc.

I have mine so that I don't have to move my head too much. My chin goes from centre to slightly more than half the distance if I would line my chin up with my shoulder.

If you were using my settings and looked 90 degrees to your left, on the monitor it would be showing the limit of your left 6 o'clock view and won't go any further no matter how much further you can twist your neck. Then when you look back trackIR will continue as normal and start panning from the place you left it (where your head would normally be to check your extreme left 6 o'clock view) until you centre your vision again, Track IR always finds the centre again.

If you like to slouch occasionally or readjust your seating then you may have to hit F12 to recentre. I have heard some people complain that TrackIR makes them sit unaturally and that they feel all stiff and can't relax. This is just because they haven't set it up to their liking and all of those who complained eventually got it set up right and love it now. You just need to set up a deadband zone so you can move your head a little without moving the view so you don't have to sit like a guy with his head in a neck brace when aiming.

You can get up answer the phone and sit down and it will remain in the centre. Search the forums for more info as there are tons of guys who have explained how TrackIR works much better than I have here and you can get some second opinions etc.

I'm completely guessing here but from what I have read on this forum I get a feeling that 90% of people who have TrackIR love it and can't imagine never using it again. So don't go out and buy it with only just talking to me as I don't want you to waste your money if it isn't something for you and you fall into that 10% category http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif.

Lucius_Esox: I just watched my Spitfire track. Just one important thing; Don't use the secondary fire unless you have a 100% clear shot, I used it carelessly and discovered it really did not have much ammo. Only use .50cal fire if you're not in for a sure kill. Also be careful not to overshoot your enemy (*cough me*cough*) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

S! Dreyer,

I concur with all that info Nomad has given you. When I first ordered TrackIR2 and got it it was really, really akward. I would often shut it off when I was dogfighting because it really messed around with my senses. But after about 3 days of using it I got so used to it and use it without even thinking. I never fly without it. It's definatly a must-have. Sometimes I forget to turn it on and don't put my hat on and I'll be moving my head around saying "WHY THE HELL WONT IT MOVE!" then realize how much of a moron I am http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It allows for you to look places so quickly (I know numpad is fast, TrackIR is fast too but its hard to compare them because they're different in their speed) and its usefullness really becomes apparent in scissors maneuvers. Anyways, you definatly should get it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks guys.

Oohhh, how many hours exactly I don't dare to guess. However I started playing maybe a few months after IL2:FB came out. I've played on and off since then. I had a passion for the BF-109 before I started flying and after some newbie time flying the Hurricane I learned to use the 109 fairly fast. Still learning lots though.

There is my conf.ini file and my settings.ini that holds all my keyboard binding (mappings) and such.

To edit snap view speed do: In your il2 base folder edit the file conf.ini and under [HookView Config] edit Speed=10 or whatever it is set at and put this value to 99 or so.

This is going to sound really nooby but "Hey" I am. Where does one go to learn about using the different planes and their characteristics.

I watched a track of you flying a B235 and decided to take one for a spin on QMB. I quessed I should use the next stage on the supercharger since I started the fight at 5000 and I guessed on the mixture setting and prop setting. I guessed wrong on how well the enemy b235 pilot could zoom climb and then I guessed wrong on a few convergence shots. I guess he finally ran out of ammo and I guess I totalled my engine because the prop stopped spinning.

I guess I'm pleading for more information! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks so much mate!

Watched three of your videos so far. I think one learns even more on the few when you get shot down, as I enjoy seeing your tactics on evasion. A lot of work and very interesting website.

Curious, how have you done against Yaks? Didn't see any info but maybe missed it or WarClouds don't have them much?

Hi,

I used to fly against Yak's all the time. However that was pre-AEP. Now nobody flies VVS in the larger public servers. Not often anyhow.

I rarely did anything but B&Z tactics or strict energy fighting against Yak's. If there were any Yak-3 around I'd never fight below 3000 meters, same with LA-5FN/7.

aero6: are you using the latest version of AEP 2.01?

Nicely done. I've thought about trying this (esp back in the day when I was racking up 9 kills a flight in the a9) but I really enjoy flying on the edge of the plane's abilities - which means alot of risk - and my online time is limited enough that I try to go for maximum fun while there. (like turn fighting spits in a dora - stuff like that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif you'd be surprised)
Very nice though - and tempting. I was having trouble losing in the dora till the other night when I tried to fly and have a conversation at the same time - hard to aim like all the 190s - but very very fast and surprising turn. Something wonderful happens to it at about 3500 meters. I ws just dancing around a well-flown p47 and mustang B between there and 4500 meters the other day. It was amazing.

I agree with you on the g6as - my fav 'winning machine' since we first got it - though I prefer to fly the p38 and 190s.

Excellent work, dreyer. Kudos for your site and good luck with your endeavour!

I look forward to see more tracks with my personal favorite from you (the BF-109 G10), they make great tutorials for lesser pilots as myself. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Because silly you, don't you see he's doing it for himself more than us?! Dreyer seems to me a man of honor, a virtual pilot we all should be proud of his flying skills, marksmanship, and ethics.

Afterall, other pilots might be taking tracks as well, if he is ever caught cheating and not reporting his death... you should expect the consequences of a public ridicule. But frankly, I don't believe it will happen. He's a man of his word. If he dies fair and square, he will most probably take it stoically and restart his endeavour.

PS. His site and tracks collection is so great IMO someone might sell these as dogfight training courses... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

oleg86 please feel free to leave this thread to those who can appreciate all his hard work and willingness to share these videos with us. I for one am not threatened by another's accomplishments, and remain willing to learn and continue to develop my own skills without feeling the need to criticize others.

If you wish to discredit the work and willingness of him to share with the IL-2 Community that is certainly your lost not his disception.

What is clear from the five (5) videos that I have examined so far is that he handles his plane appropriately, shows a good deal of patience in ID/tracking bandits, and handles E well.

What gives me encouragement, if I may say so without offence, is that because of these skills he manages to get his kills without exceptional deflection shooting, and because of his care he manages to get home safely.

Is he telling us the complete truth? There is no reason to believe otherwise. Regardless, the videos speak for themselves and ought to be the focus of debate, not someone's green envy of disbelief. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif

Hi all,
For what it's worth I voiced an opinion earlier in this thread to the man who started it. The opinion had nothing to do with this thread really but the way it was answered made me think the guy was ok. Nope I don't believe everything I read on the net but there was nothing to be gained in that answer so I think he is sincere. Methinks some here are a little jealous over the exposure and "kudos" this guy is getting when all he has done imo is be honest, hey I noticed I even shot him down in one of the tracks on his site http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Only joking but that would have been fun!!! and possible. No disrespect meant here of course but that is the whole point of what is being done, it IS possible for anyone to take hime down, but thus far!!!!

There are two reasons I am doing this. First off it is very fun and challenging! When in trouble I'm actually sweating and feeling nervous while flying. Trying to keep cool in order to avoid death it is almost like an adrenaline rush! Makes the game very exciting other than just flying around for no specific reason. For me this is key.

Second, I remember back in 2003 when I first started flying IL2: FB I was looking for tracks always. I posted on the forum multiple times about it and never really got any good responses. People seemed eager to share their QMB tracks, however offline tracks against the AI interest me not. Therefore I've always tried to post up tracks for the public so more inexperienced pilots have something to look at. I wish true aces would do the same for me, I really need it. Watching tracks from other people is very interesting and gives me a greater perspective on how to excel my skills.

So even if you don't believe me, that's perfectly fine. I don't really expect anyone to, and being skeptic is always good as such. At least there are some online tracks available for anyone interested to download.

Lucius_Esox: You are 100% correct. ANYONE can bring me down. It all depends on circumstance. Being an online combat pilot is never safe regardless of your skills. Nobody can beat the laws of physics.

HayateKid: I hope so http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And please give me tracks. I'll even host them for you so others can download!

oleg86: I hope most "of you" can do the same. That would be great, loads of tracks for me to watch! YAY!

hartmann was never shootdown,

he is go down many time , because hartmann was many time hit from rubble fragment from explode plane

because his danger tatic, only to shoot very short distance

btw, hartmann had only g6 fly 43-44

that means, more as 95% of his victory was with g6

Well done!

The longest streak I've ever known of was "Fishu" in either Air Warrior or Warbirds, I don't remember which.. dude had 250 confirmed kills without a death.

I did a "streak" thread over at WWII Online and kept a diary while I went through every plane in the list one by one (never got 100% finished) and my longest was about 70-80 kills without being shot down with a 109 airframe (no bailing out in that sim.. so that's not being shot down, period!)

Anyhow.. 100 victories is definately worth celebrating! Kudos to you for making it!
