Ok, this is a direct comparison of Jet sim.
It is difficult to directly compare Falcon and LOMAC due to their modeling of different aircraft, and of course different technology (Falcon is outdated but SP4 is keeping up).

But if I am to stick with either one of them which one would it be? Let's compare.

1) Graphic
LOMAC wins. But with upcoming BMS, Falcon 4 is up there with LOMAC. BMS will provide Falcon 4 with a true 3D cockpit and modeling CGI.

for more info.

2)Flight Modeling
This is tricky. It's hard for me to say since the only military aircraft I actually flew in are PC-3 Orion and Aurora during my time of service. But, having said all that, I'd say they are almost equal.

I would give hands towards Falcon because they are customizable and continuously improving with SP series patch.

3) Environment (Atmosphere).
No competition on this: Falcon 4.
The "True Dynamic" campaign is tense, and situations are quite realistic. The only downside is that it does not offer the variety of missions like LOMAC.

LOMAC's environment is pretty good too. But it doesn't have the intensity of Falcon 4.

4)On-Line play.
Both LOMAC and Falcon are equal on this.
Falcon's multiplayer ability has continuosly improved since its release and LOMAC's multiplayer ability is top notch.

But LOMAC tends to lag a bit during on-line gaming, where as Falcon always maintains low ping rate.

5) Community Support
Falcon wins on this.
Although Hasbro pulled the plug, there are enough resources on the web to tweak this game to the hell and back. LOMAC has the standard UBI support, and is continuosly will be patched I presume.

But since the release back in 99, Falcon 4 has proved that it will live upto its name, even after 5 years has passed.

So overall conclusion?
Both are VERY VERY VERY Good sims.
But if I am to choose one, I would choose Falcon 4.

With SP4 + BMS, it is completely a new sim (of course when BMS gets released). Right now I have F-18 mod patched and it is darn good.

LOMAC is enjoyable too. But you always get to wonder, how would Falcon 4 would "Evolve" again in near future.

Assuming "general discussion" means "generally flight-sim related" seems fair given the numerous other topics posted that do not deal with FB or FB gameplay.

Sooo....

I can't comment on falcon. Untill its re-released as a stand alone product that does not require ebaying, I will not be able to compare the tow.

I'm understand that Falcon was/is great. More power to it. But the klingons who profess the greatness of the sim need to keep one thing in mind: I can't pick it up at Best Buy, and this fact alone is why it does not appeal to me.

Lomac, on the other hand, is accessible. I think it has the potential to crap-can several sim titles provided the developers can deliver on thier promises.

Thats just my opinion though.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I have owned LOMAC for about 6 months and have never loaded it on my HP. I always wanted to play Falcon 4.0 but just never took the plunge. I played Janes F/A-18 for about 3 years and I enjoyed that a lot, a very hard core sim with great community support. Lots of devotion by that community to perform upgrades without having the code. There is nothing quite like landing a Hornet at night and bad weather on a carrier. I think it is a superb simulation of modern jet warfare and I am very tempted to give it another go. Falcon 5.0 looms on the horizon and has potential.

All of that being said, there is something special about getting into a cat and mouse turning DF against a FW-190, too. I don't see how I can possibly get through all of this for at least 2 years. If only there were another 16 or so hours in the day..... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif
