View Full Version : Oleg, an easy map request

it would be useful for the map view (while we are in flight) to see, near the icon of a friendly airfield, a number showing the orientation of the airstrip.

For instance if the airstrip is oriented at 90 degrees, i.e. East-West, the number 90 (or maybe only 9 would be enough).

So one could better approach an airfield for landing, knowing how it is oriented.

Historically is an information that each flight map had, I believe.

Yes that'd be nice!

Real pilots look at maps to see what the airfield direction was.

Look at the FMB maps and learn about the airfields you will be using, just like Real Life.

@ LEXX-Luthor: never said this was a problem. Only that having it was a nice addition.

Real life pilots surely had this indication in their maps.

You can see airfield direction in your FMB maps before mission.

For use on a map in flight, use print out maps and place your own markings, or Oleg could change the airfield map icons to simple bars, and rotate them to the correct angle for each airfield.

Here's an even easier map request:

Simple: 250km x 250km of SAND, with a couple of AF's strewn about. Nothing else (we can add that in ourselves in FMB). Call it 'desert' or something. THAT, we would get some mileage out of. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I can see Antonio's point now...but its better to have bar for airfield rotated to show airfield direction instead of numbers...radian angles would be kinda cool though hehe http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Good Idea Antonio http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif (took me a while but I got there)

If paved airfields had the number painted on them that would make me happy.

Paved airfields can be a differnt colour BAR that is rotated to show direction.

Paved airfields have grey bar.

Unpaved airfields have green bar.

No Numbers needed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you've seen real ICAO aviation maps you'd see that the airfield symbology differs for paved/unpaved, civilian/military, public/private AFs etc. In FB/AEP/PF I would suggest bar with a circle (like on real maps), full bar for paved, empty for unpaved, circle in red if it's VVS/Allied, circle in blue if the field is LW/Axis. Bar orientation should be equal to the orientation of the main runway.
