View Full Version : Anything and everything landed on a carrier

11-10-2006, 02:35 PM

Carrier landings is a subject that comes up once in a while here, so I thought Id post a 'for fun' vid I made.

Its 18 non-carrier aircraft landed on a carrier, including TB-3 (intact), Ju-88, He 111, YP-80, Me 262, B-25, A-20, Do-355, G4M, 109, 190, IL-2 and more.

My apologies, Photobucket seem to have split the video, it should have also included this bit (Ju-88(repeated) P-38, TB-3, YP-80).

Seriously, though, the FW190 and He111 landings were hilarious. But, Dood. Were you, like, bored that day, or what?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Hi all,

Im always up for a challenge, so how about this 190 A-4?

http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/ChickenHawk_2006/th_FW190acarrier.jpg (http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/ChickenHawk_2006/?action=view&current=FW190acarrier.flv)

I recently started a Seafire campaign, and I had to practice the takeoffs a lot, then after the first mission, I realised I simply could not land one. Im ok at it now, but I spent a good few hours practicing. So I could stick pretty much everything in the game down on the deck, except the Seafire which was designed for it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

@ TAW_Oilburner, I posted the Lancaster stuff a few weeks ago in General Discussion, you can check it here http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/3681052994/p/1 I hope you like it.

@ F16_Matz_ Good work mate http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I personally think the Go-229 is the hardest flyable aircraft to take-off in. I can only just manage it.

The most difficult flyable to land on a carrier is the 190/88 Mistel. I still havent mastered this one and have sent about twenty flat-tops to the bottom trying.

11-13-2006, 11:30 AM
You're right, most challenging of all. You can't see the carrier on approach and once you get it on deck the breaks are way too weak - that thing is not meant to land with http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Pretty explosions though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

11-13-2006, 09:45 PM
For your next trick try landing and taking of on the carrier on the same try with the heavy bombers or any of the others. Takes some free time like I used to have. I did it by landing like you do and then turning only the right engine/s and locking the tale to do a tight 180 and easing the throttle to get to the back of the carrier and turning once again and full throttle it with flaps at take off. It's actually easier to do than trying it with a Corsair. I also had the carrier going as fast as it could go and it was the largest carrier. That might be cheating a bit, but fun to waist time on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

11-15-2006, 12:04 PM
I botch my landings on land based runways half the time in the mig-3 so no surprise its hard to land on a carrier. Funny thing is, I've landed several of the planes in your videos on carries and the one I have the most difficulty with is the corsair!

11-15-2006, 12:20 PM
Soooo, all people should stop whining about not any carrier torpedo aircraft in the game. It seems to me that the Il-2T is very suitable for that role http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The IL-2T is very suitable for carrier work. Our squad, within days of release of PF, were using IL-2s off carriers in missions, and we use them almost every week at the moment in our pacific SEOW campaigns.

Indeed, our carrier qualifications feature the IL-2T quite a bit!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif ...But I still want to see someone land a Mistel on a carrier. Maybe we should have a collection and buy a trophy to be awarded to the best (100% intact) Mistel landing pilot.

I can land intact but cant stop before the end of the deck, or I just crash in (+/- detonation).

Its really quite tricky. Have a go http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Hi all,

Yes, the second video I posted in this thread has the TB3 landing intact. Photobucket split the video into two - very frustrating http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I did post a previous attempt somewhere else, the plane is not intact, but amazing that it didnt fall off the deck :

http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/ChickenHawk_2006/th_TB3carrier.jpg (http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/ChickenHawk_2006/?action=view&current=TB3carrier.flv)

Anyway, putting the TB3 on a carrier deck is old news now. Todays daring IL2 pilots know the real action is in trying to land Mistels on carriers! Has anyone made it intact and alive yet? I'll stand a beer for the first pilot that does. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

As for the 190 skin - I cant remember who made it, the file is called Albin_Wolf.bmp, there is no name on it. I may have downloaded it as part of a pack of 190 Aces skins, but Im afraid I cant point you to it, sorry http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I been experimenting around with vey low levels of fuel landings and i've successfully been able to land an Me-163 (on quite a few occasions) on the long wooden decked american carrier (yorktown?) without any damage.
The carrier was moving at approximately 30 kmph when i touched down i think. (the thing was slowing down from 35 from the time i started the map i think.
I think it is easier to land tricycle gear planes cos you can slam on the brakes.
I've messed around with most of the biplanes on full fuel. the Gladiator's stall speed is practically the boats speed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.
Nice work on gettin the Go to land. Never even considered that.
Think everything else i've landed has already been mentioned.

I don't meant to be a party pooper or anything but doing this is really too easy.

Do the Mosquito on the British Carrier. Its 'funner' cause its smaller.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif At Jaws2002, and his VTOL FW190 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I think the Mig3 might be potentially do-able if you keep the speed at 230kmh and come in at a shallow angle. The problem then is stopping, as has been mentioned already.
Keeping the flaps down but pulling judiciously back on the stick while using rudder to do a sine-wave down the deck I think will be the answer.
I also seem to have better success with putting one wheel down on the deck before the other. I dont know why this should make a difference, but I definately get fewer instances of the landing gear collapsing when I do it.

The only real challenge left is the Mistel.

However, I'd like someone else to try taking off in the Go-229. I found it quite tricky at first, some difficult low speed behaviour.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

There's a bug for quite some time now in the FMB. You can open a Carrier mission with notepad and change the speed of the Carrier to whatever you want.

In that mission the carrier is runing at 380Km/h http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif You can do some really nice stunts with it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Mig 3 here you go

My preferred carrier is the British one, naturally. But I think the Mig can't get down on it, or the CVE for that mater. I reckon that is impossible. So I went with the Saratoga. Essex would be way easy and I may manage the mistel on an Essex. My mig landing is ugly and I am sure I can make it all pretty if you want.

Will work on a Mistel but I am NOT optimistic.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

@ Waldo.Pepper, very good stuff mate http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

You make the very shallow angle approach ok, and only just miss the ramp. Ive hit that a few time with the result of being thrown into the air way above hte deck, but your effort was timed just right. I was surpirised at how low the speed was, a good 60kmh slower than me.

Just the Mistel then guys.... Kudos to the successful, certain death to those that fail (and the crew of the carrier!)

You do all realise that once the Mistel is achieved, we're going to have to do it all again on static carriers?

PS anyone tried the 229 takeoff yet?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Thanks Hanglands

Here is a take off, circuit and landing in one track that I just did. What was I supposed to see/notice about the Gotha?

I never fly the Gotha. With apologies to Gibbage, and anyone else who hand a hand in giving it to us I just hate flying it. I don't like the change in seat position when in gunsight view. It is like sitting up a step ladder or something. It just feels really wrong. Plus I thing it is in the game to offer a direct mirror to CFS 3 which also had the plane I think. A gutsy marketing move, but little else. Take the fight to the enemey etc. I still hate flying it though.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I dont know who gave us the Gotha (I've not been here long enough to know the history here) but Im glad that the plane is here.

I mangaed to take off on the first attempt from the carrier (dunno what carrier Im using same as in the vids I posted http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sleepzzz.gif) I felt tht the plane just wanted to sink on the first attempt, and despite gentler coaxing in an upwards direction on the second attempt, I felt the same lead-like tendancies of the aircraft. I had to really ignore the engine overheat warinings to achieve anything like vertical safety on the take offs. All take-offs successful, just a surprisingly heavy bird at low speed.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
