View Full Version : Ground Objects Cannot Be Destroyed

I'm playing IL-2 1946 and noticed that no matter how many times I strafe and shoot cannons/machine gun at ground objects (eg. airbase objects, building structures, etc.), there isn't even a dent caused to these objects. Yet when I crashed into them, it would show them to be destroyed.

This happened both in quick and mission creation.

Anyone knows how the destruction can be turned on? Thanks.

Have you tried a bomb?

Only certain things can be destroyed by guns. Like fuel tanks, cars, trucks, AAA, light armor....etc.

...and objects which are a part of the map are harder to destroy than the ones placed by a mission maker

Thanks for the input fellows.

As I particularly like strafing big ground objects such as buildings, is there any tweaking or adjustments I may make anywhere such that the damage modelling shows up the moment these big objects are hit by bullets?

I think many light objects are destructible with machine guns; I only destroyed light objects I doubt it will work vs hangar for example.
However, cannons may work well vs some ships too maybe even a bit larger static objects.
I have destroyed airfield observation tower with 30mm.
Also I think damage for ground objects appear as 1 or 0.
Either alive or destroyed, no mid damage.

Think about it...a big hangar is probably not going to succumb to a couple of planes firing a few machine gun or a cannon round at it. If you use a big enough cannon I believe you can take down the larger buildings (anyone tried with a NS-45 recently?).

There are no tweaks to the stock game. There may be for the AAA mods (sshhhh!) but I suspect they wouldn't make that kind of tweak.

Buildings mostly have two states: 1) Pristine and fine 2) Blown to bits.

Bombs and rockets are surefire ways to destroy any kind of building.

if you are using the mods there are a few options.... ask me at AAA (fabianfred)

all the Objects can only have two states....destroyed or undamaged...but it is possible to adjust the settings (relative strength) for every single Object in the game.... to your own satisfaction....but really only for your own use off-line..
By Objects we mean the Objects menu items and not the Stationary Objects which are non-moving, non-firing versions of the tanks and guns and vehicles from other menus like Armour/ships/artillery etc.
I also tweaked the strength of the light AA guns (manned) on ships so that they could be destroyed by straffing with MG/rocket/cannon/near explosions of bomb or torpedo........ this had no effect on the hull damage so did not make the ships easier to sink

...and i applied the damage model explosion and sounds from the train carriages to all the stationary aircraft so that they get a secondary explosion and noise upon destruction.

This isn't Hollywood mate, not everything explodes in an enourmous fireball after a few MG hits.. Most buildings are made of tin, timber, bricks and concrete. When you shoot guns or cannon at buildings you only succeed in putting lots of holes in them.

Try using rockets or bombs.

Actually I was trying to do like what I did in Falcon 4, where most things seem to be destructible with guns.

I tried loading Spitfire with rocket but there isn't such option. Any other fighter of similar fighting ability that is also able to carry rockets?

IRL -some- of those buildings (and train cars, trucks) stored munitions and explosives.
The guncam shots were pretty spectacular.
It takes a lot of boom to keep an army supplied.

Yeah, so did horse drawn carts, that doesn't deny the fact that the average horse drawn cart consists of :

1)Horse

2)Cart

Are you suggesting that Oleg should have moddeled random building explosivity? Or maybe made .50 calibre MG's lethal against Tigers and T-34's for an encore?

It's rude to point out the obvious mate.

Some screenshots of objects that can be destroyed.

I took these shortly after 'Sturmovik 1946' was released, so some of the destroyable objects probably came with that release.

BTW,it is great fun hitting these objects with guns and seeing them go 'pop'!:

This actually made me laugh outloud. Sorry vp, nothing personal.

If Oleg had made it so we COULDN't sink small ships with cannon fire, the modders would have made a 'realism mod' that would ALLOW us to sink small ships with cannon fire. Be sure... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

The Seafire's carry rockets. So does the Tempest...although the Tempest is a faster and heavier fighter with less sustained turning capability. A Tempest with rockets and the associated rocket rails will really loose allot of performance too. So you have to keep that in mind if you want to fight with enemy fighters too.
