probably a stupid question, but i haven't found any key that seems to work. on the val and the ki-43 there seem to be covers over the gunsights making them all black. how do you make the sights work? thanks

It is ctrl d by default - under controls - rectile dimmer.

I also notice in the "gunners position" in he ki-43 there is no increase FOV as with the other aircraft.

Press shift-F1 after you move the lens cap to zoom in and you the telescope feature.

in the 'gunners position' (zoomed in on gunsight) you are correct, you can't increase FOV by sitting back in the seat like in regular mode, because you are basically pressing your eye up to the gunsight and looking thru the sight.

shift + f1 will get you back into regular view and you have the regular 3 kinds of view

Ctrl-D to take the covers off, Shift-F1 to look through the sight.

A slight deviation from the gunsight query, but do we know what other aircraft used the telescopic sight ?

Looking at some pictures of the Ki-44 it looks like some of those variants used a similar sight.

Cheers

SBD-3 has a telescopic sight but no cover.
