View Full Version : Flying online with Me-109 G-6

I don't post here very much, but was flying online earlier today on Skies Of Valour server. That was my first ever experience online and boy did I enjoy meself, (yes I'm Irish, lol and no I'm not studying to be a priest!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif !!) My Call sign is clandebouyekid. I took off and headed for the front, when I got there, there was lots off planes twisting and turning at very low level (La-7's P-39's La-5's Yak-3's Yak-9's and the two version's of the Me-109; G-2 and G-6), I didn't at that point think too much on that at the time. I tried, to no avail, to help out teammates but got shot down twice in the process, during one pass I did drag for a teammate who downed the P-39 that was on my tail. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
So I jumped in the G-6 for the third time and this I took her up to 5500m and hung about. Now a lone La-7 came up to check me out and I downed him on a frontal boom 'n' zoom pass, WOOOHOOO!!. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif After which I went down to the deck again and got lured into twisting and turning fight at low level and promptly got shot down again lol!! Halfway during this fight I thought to myself, 'I'm a goner' and of course I was. I didn't use my planes strengths to my benefit and I was wondering why were all my teammates doing the same? As we all know from history German planes excelled high up and the Russian planes excelled at low to med heights. My first and only kill was high up. My question is this if the G-6 excels at height why, and I'm sure there was, did my other teammates and myself get sucked into a twisting turning fight at low to medium level with russian planes which those planes excel at???

Because you lacked patience http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif That's the very first thing I ask trainees to have when dealing with energy fighting. Know when to disengage when the situation is not in your advantage anymore. Extend or zoom climb or turn climb when you are exciting the DF zone.

Although not much of an onliner, I can tell you that the Bf109G-6 is probably not a match for the La-7, even high up, and indeed historically a Bf109 G-6AS,G-14, G-10 would be a better plane to face the lateR Russian fighters.

That said, if you like a challenge there's no stopping you using the rather heavy Bf109 G-6!

Very VERY tough planeset for blue, that one mate.

109G10 or 109K4 would be a far better choice for the planeset if they really were La7's and not La5's you were fighting.

Trust me that other online excursions should be a bit easier for you, you picked a very tough planeset for your first battle!

The LA7 is a very strong low level plane for anythinkg in IL2 bar the Me262, even the Fw190D9 has problems with the La7 in some kind of fights.

Ok thanks guys for the replies, well I did bag a Lag high up when I used the G-6 to my advantage, he was struggling to reach me, I'm sure he was under 250kph in a steep climb, but that said I did have a lot of fun and laughed all the way into the dirt LOL!!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
I must say it was the best craic I had in a long time of flying in this game, I'm more of a offline flyer (campaigns and the like). But I WILL be flying more online from now on. I bought the original IL-2 when it first came out and have been flying off line since that time, never really thought of myself to be experienced enough for online flying .......... so I practised and practised until my eyes bled lol (AI set to veteran or Ace). I had a lot of fun and that's the main thing I think!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Oh and forgot to mention that it was Finnish map that I was on, maybe that's why the Blue plane set was limited G-2's and G-6's, as I recall from memory that Fin's only had these planes in service ..........
