While everyone is heaping compliments on Battlestar Galactica, maybe its a good time to also plug this little gem. A sci-fi space-western with bags of style and plenty of action and belly laughs in equal measure. Find it on DVD - its a keeper!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

If you like the TV series then get the full feature movie followup "Serenity"

Firefly is great!! I saw Serenity.... then I went out and bought Firefly... Serenity was good..... a keeper. I had never watched Firefly until after I saw Serenity.. then one day I was cruising the SciFi channel.. and I saw some familiar faces... HOKEY SMOKES!!!! You mean it's a series!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Next day I was hunting.

Love em both!

Firefly's CGI was done by the same folks that do Battlestar Galactica. Serenity (the ship) actually shows up in a brief CGI shot in Battlestar...I believe thats in the miniseries.

Great minds..

Just returned from Blockbuster with the last 2 DVDs of "Firefly". I'm set for the next couple of nights.

I get a good laugh out of the sheer amount of creative filth they get away with uttering in really poorly pronounced Chinese due to the fact that the US censors couldn't understand any of it.

Firefly/Serenity - Great series. Such good stories even my wife (a non sci-fi nut) enjoyed them.

Yeah, I'm with you guys, but I was watching it as a one-two punch with John Doe on -I think it was the WB- Fridays a few years back. It was a shock and disappointment when neither was renewed. Can you imagine those shows following something like Lost?

cheers

Apparently the problem with sci-fi is it rates extremely well but doesnt appeal to the advertisers and marketing men. They have trouble pinning down a viable target market that watches science fiction so they are not keen to pay for add time .. hence the networks drop the shows even when they rate well.

got Serenity first, Firefly followed soon after. Not watched everything yet, but I like what I'm seeing.

Watched Serenity first, but hadn't realised it was a series and got the impression I would have enjoyed it more if I had seen the series first.

Is this one of those shows that just drops i.e. no real satisfying conclusion? I hate that 'leave em high and dry' feeling you get when a show gets the axe.

Farscape was a good example of this kind thing.

Unfortunately the series was dropped by the network before it had a chance to build up a decent fan base (Buffy fans wanted more of the same and sci-fi fans didn't trust the Buffy creator to make a good space show). It wasn't until it went to DVD that it began to really take off.
There is an online petition going around to try and get Joss Whedon to make a second series. I may have signed it... I'm not saying http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I was one of those that found out abotu Firefly after it was cancelled. Fox really butchered the release of that series.

Excellent series as well as Serenity for a movie. I have the movie and series DVD set.

Aw, you're not watching it right http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Go back and see the episodes "Out of Gas" or "Objects in Space" for example. Then see if you still hate it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Firefly and Serenity are in the Blockbuster queue after I finish catching up on nine years of SG-1 (I'm midway through season four now.) I've caught an episode or two of Firefly and like it. But what do I know, I'm using SG-1 to fill the Sci-Fi void left from Enterprise. I think I'm one of three fans who actually liked that show (the first season anyway, before they butchered it in an attempt to make it "grittier" and appeal to fans of The Shield.)

It's amazing to me how many fun shows Fox develops and then axes (John Doe, Firefly), some to be revived after they get picked up in syndication and shown to have a fan base and make money (Family Guy.)

Both the series and movie are great! I sincerely recommend them.

Saw whole series on TV and later watched the re-run. Bought complete series and serenity as DVD.. guess I could be called a fan. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I must confess I have heard of the show but never watched it. I'll have to look out for it as I made that mistake the BSG.

Only issue I had with this one (but to be fair I have only watched serenity movie so far ) Was the mark of the former buffy the vampire slayer (director?) was at times obvious. I was half expecting a vampire to appear at times but I am biased (never got into the btvs series although the wife loved it) So that would be my only caveat.

I think I may bite the bullet and get the series though as I have a new gap in my viewing left by BSG that cannot be filled by LOST and sure as hell wont be filled by big brother http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

I loved Serenity

I recently I found out that it was a serires (Firefly) but unbelieveable I haven't seen any episode.

I do have SciFi chann, anyone care to post the Central time and days they air the show?

I found the series a lot better than the film. "Serenity" works best when seen as one long TV-episode.
