Maybe 109 and LaGG-3 got mixed up in the code http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Good pic, stories like that for many kinds of planes though. Actually, have seen and experienced damage like that in the 109. Most recently in "El Alamein" LW campaign. You know, the big "bite" in the fuselage. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif CAn still fly and make it home but still get the odd engine hit and oil covered windshield ... once from a Catalina.

There there *pats cuda on the back* I know a shadow has been cast on the idea that 109 was a paper plane IRL (like it is in IL-2 game), but it's not so bad. I'm sure most of all metal planes exhibited similar toughness especially compared to laminated wooden wonders.

Tiger killing .50s would certainly shred the 109 to ribbons unlike silly cannon shells.

I know that one track does not mean much but I like to meet them head-on. (http://free-vk.t-com.hr/domagoj/tracks/offline/402__kunabf109g_vs_2xspit5cw_h2h_30.zip)
I made these yesterday when I was practicing h2h... it's quite insane.

I don't know...the 109 seems decently strong for a fighter of its size, weight, and composition. It takes a few hits when your flying it and when your shooting it it absorbs its share before going down.

109 seems very fragile compared to ...you know

Yes. One pic does is NOT proof that all 109s could take such damage and make it back to base.

The beauty of IL2 is technically, ALL aircraft can take a shot like that and make it back if the player pilot is lucky. You may not see the graphic damage, but ALL planes can sometimes escape the big hit if it doesn`t quite connect.

109 is surprisingly robust ingame.

another 20mm would have sliced him in half tho, as that is almost certainly a hispano round that did that, unless its from AAA

Looks like the pic was made in Africa. Can you tell me which book is it from ? I'd guess it's a 40mm Bofors. Thanks.

Otto Schulz in the rank of Oblt flew with Stab JG 27 from something like April/May 1942 (when he was promoted) until June 1942, when he made his last kill. I guess he was kia.

Picture is from "JG27 in action Vol III" by Marek J. Murawski. One couriosity about this book is that it's written in both english and polish, left side of the page is polish, right side english.

Oberfeldwebel Otto Schulz scored 6 kills in europe,3 in russia and 35 in the Med,before being shot down and killed in action,by a Kittyhawk near Sisi Rezegh on 17 June 1942

I wonder why you guys are astounded when the Me109 doesn`t snap in two when hit by a 20mm round. It should not.Breaking wings weren`t the most often cases either!

Cockpit fire/engine failure/controls failure/pilot kill is what it`s all about!

You get a hit, you`re out of the fight and must go home!

One thing I got too long ago in a Me109 - pilot kill.I`ve been hit in the back with 20mm many times and still no death.

Other than that the Me109 is one of the most advanced planes in the game,DM wise.

PS.Somebody dig up that MK108 shell hole made in a British bomber!

109 strong? Seriously? Sometimes I think if I just sneeze in the cockpit I start a friggin' oil leak! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Just last night, me and another Emil hit a Hawk185 hard, 4 times, multiple Minengeschosse hits each time, and he ran away smoking. I pulled off because I thought no way he is going to survive. Yet he did and you don't see me complaining about it.

But it gets better, lo and behold, he turns around and does a head on on me landing 3 bullets total (his plane was swaying from the damage I think possibly due to a disabled MG) and my engine stopped immediately. No smoking, overheat or spin down, just an immediate stop.

I guess if you had hit his engine with 3 bullets in total you may have caused that damage as well...

He sounds like a great shot. <S> to him.

Oh, and you can't brag that you don't come in here and complain, when you come in here and complain.
