Hello, all. I've been in Israel for the last 8 months and as sad as it is... I didn't have time to play IL-2. I own the original and FB but I'm considering buying Ace. Can someone please tell me about Ace (and its problems), if it's an improvement it FB and above all if it's worth the money? Thx.

Tal

PS: Did they get rid of the 12 sided engines yet?

The ace expansion pack adds more planes. There seems to be no difference bettween the aircraft already in FB before the pack and after. There are some flight dynamics changes, but that is to be expected. Overall, I think that the expansion pack is great and I strongly suggest that you purchase it. The community appears to be very happy with aces, there really is nothing terribly wrong with it and it adds quite a bit to the game.

Its absolutely an improvement and worth the money.
Interesting new planes......
I willingly gave up my "acedom" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif on the 109 to get "random" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif and a closer look at the other planes. Spit, Gladiator,IAR80-81, FiatG50, FiatCr42, bf110 and many others.
Its too fun to fly now.....atleast that is what my wife says ( she's patting me on the head now. A good sign I guess).

There is one big problem though. Now u have to read about all these planes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

never heard anyone being unhappy with it.

Maps: the AEP CD-ROM basically gives you the same maps as the FB patch 1.22 does -- Normandy and Ardennes and the Pacific Online map. The Pacific Online is added to the Quick Mission Builder, however, which is nice. There may be some other new online maps (can't remember for sure), but I don't think there are any new 'big' maps in AEP. The first AEP upgrade patch adds a desert online map.

Aircraft: I don't have the list of all that has been added in front of me right now, but I'm sure it's easy enough to find. I can assure you that the variety of types and nationalities really opens creative options for mission designers. Among the planes that stick out immediately in my mind are the Bf-110, Spitfire MkV, P-38 Lightning, P-51 B/C, and P-51D with lead computing site (a neat little thing to play with in its own right). There are also new jet and rocket-powered aircraft like the YP-80, Komet, and Salamander which adds a new dimension to combat matchups. There are the odd-yet-interesting pieces like the Mistel (big explosions but tough to aim), a variant of the TB-3 that carries I-16s under the wing, and V-1 flying bomb (tipping one in flight is quite a challenge). And there are several new '**** planes' (an affectionate term for older and lesser known planes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ) to round out early war/forgotten war/ fake WWI options.

Campaigns: Several new dynamic campaigns have been added for more Eastern Front options, including a Bf-110 campaign and a Romanian campaign. Sorry, I'm bad on details.

Nationalities: The markings and options for several new nationalities have been added. If I recall correctly there are French and Slovakian language speech packs added.

Anyway, AEP represents a huge leap in creative options for mission designers. A quick look at sites like Netwings will show you how the community is using these new planes to build interesting and unique missions and campaigns. For that alone, its worth the money. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So, it turns out that Krap with a 'C' is a bad word ...

I don't see a full AEP features list at the IL-2 Sturmovik home page, but here's some other links that may help:
