Just thought I'd let everyone know that M4T will be upgrading to a new, larger dedicated server.

This from Gamekeeper:

With the promise of 409 and new addons for IL-2 community interest in the game and in M4T has been revitalised, we are now experiencing traffic beyond the capabilities of our server and in order to continue we must move to a dedicated server. This decision has not been reached light heartedly, it is an expensive undertaking and we will be more dependant than ever on the support of the IL-2 community to maintain our presence on the web. The move was originally planned for the end of the month but traffic is not abating and we continue to have traffic spikes which severely affect our ability to deliver at our usual levels of performance. The server is quite powerful and will more than meet our immediate needs and has plenty of headroom for the future. The site will go offline 0:00 hours Wednesday 19th August. Downtime is expected to be less than 48 hours.

So don't panic if you can't log on for a couple of days. We'll be back bigger and better than ever.

If you have any questions just ask or post over at M4T.

Beebop, could you specify time zone? It'll help all us Aussies and other parts of the world that don't use "real" time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I am not sure if there is a difference between (BST) British Summer Time and (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time but Gamekeeper said he was going offline at 0:00 BST.

Let us know when you are done with the upgrades. (It will always take longer than you expect.) It is like home improvements.

Thanks for the heads up Beebop.

... and not GMT guys ... use Zulu Time :P

The term GMT can refer to either UTC or UT1 so its confusing.

Use of GMT can depend on how old you are too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Its only a relatively recent thing that people use UTC or Zulu time, previously GMT was used, and is still refered to even when meaning UTC, the phrase is quite interchangeable, especially when used in Britain. On 1 January 1972, GMT was replaced as the international time reference by Coordinated Universal Time, maintained by an ensemble of atomic clocks around the world.

Anyhow, back on topic: Hope the M4T server upgrades/move go well and you don't run into any unexpected trouble!

The server IP is now propogating through the internet, I know the M4T placeholder was seen in the US around 7am UK time about an hour after I started the process. It ha been up in the UK for 2 hours now. So once I get everything uploaded we should have the new site working in several countries if not all by 0:00 BST tonight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
