I'm taking the plunge and getting another rig to replace my creaking AMD 2100... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Everything is set but the Video card, I'm very tempted to get this:

Anyone got one...

The 7950 GX2 is sort of old hat these days...unless you can get it for a really awesome price in which case certainly not a problem with it.

But if prices are similar or slightly less of a concern...a GeForce 8800GTS in 320mb or 640mb flavours would, off the top of my head, be faster in every respect and the GeForce 8000 series tends to offer better image quality than the somewhat flawed (in this respect) 7000 series.

$30 more and your into the 8800GT, in a year they will be a good cheap price.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Better curb it now, start saying 'only another so much' and who knows where it would end... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It is a fantastic card (I have one myself)

Since IL2FB is the only game I am interested in, the 7950GX2 has more power than the 8800GTS
(at least Tom's Hardware claims so).

In Germany you find these cards for EUR 220 - EUR 240 at eBay

At this price they are a great bargain.

So, for IL2FB the 7950GX2 at EUR 230 is a great idea.

Some side info:
NVIDIA is upgrading the 8800GTS: As of next month all 8800GTS will have more shaders and 640Mb. I would not buy a 8800GTS this month...

If you want to be future compatible you need a card which can do Dix10
Unfortunately no such card exists today http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
The specification (coming out in the next months) is Dix 10.1 and the current HW from NVIDIA and ATI is not compatible.

Therefore, buy the cheapest card with the most power (and that is the 7950GX2) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
