View Full Version : FB is on the PC Gamer "Best 50 Games of All Time" list

In the April 2005 issue. Sorry I don't have any scans.

The last list was back in 2001, so some new games made since then were on the 2005 list and FB is one of them, coming in at # 40. The reason ? " This WW II flight sim stands at the zenith of the genre " (from the article).

Excellent and well-deserved.

The closest WW II related game to the top spot is Battlefield 1942 at # 9.

a little OT : the issue also has a preview of Call of Duty II which has a new area for the UK missions : North Africa. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Any other flight sim games make the list?

Nope, no other sims made the list. Not even the "other" one.

Oh! And for you LOMAC fans, Andy Mahood, PCGamers sim editor, gave the Flaming Cliffs expansion a marvelous review. He was particularly enthusiastic about the addition of the SU-25T tank buster. he says the FM, avionics and weapons system detail is superb. He adds that the bugs not fixed up to this point have been addressed by Flaming Cliffs. Maybe I will have to log a little jet time now!

And I have a bit of a no brainer prediction here. In five more years, this game will probably still make the list of the top 50! This game is so great in so many ways (no, it's not prefect of course) that you can play it every day for years and still have more to learn about it. Not bad for a 3 year old game huh?

The only other (you can very loosely call) flight sim that made the list is Wing Commander III : Heart of the Tiger at # 48.

Where'd they put Prince of Persia, I mean the original one. That was my favorite DOS game in the world, I still play it.

That is one of my all times best games. It was the best of the whole Wing commander series. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Meh. I'll pass up a lot of these "Best games of all time..." lists. I rarely ever see any mention of games like Longbow 2, Heavy Gear, Apache, Drakan, etc.

The whole lists always seem full of DOOM or Half-Life clones in one form or another. And besides, one person's best games of all time list is another's most loathed games of all time.

I'm kinda wary about these things too. IMHO, these "Greatest Games" list are sometimes a subtle ad for current games. The worst offender I ever saw was when one of these console magazines put out a "50 Greatest Games of All Time" list and in the top 5 was a Zelda game THAT WASN'T RELEASED YET ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

But someone was going to post this PC Gamer list eventually so I thought I'll go ahead and post it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
