Do you mean a campaign as in the whole war? Or just one map's worth?

I'm determined to finish Extreme_One's RAF campaign, but at present am only a little over half way through. I'm flying it on "realistic" settings in all but map icons, to simulate Radar vectoring.

I was most distressed to be flown into the other day by an AI wingman, whilst heading in to land, which cost me a) an airframe, and b) three kills. Funny how caught up in the whole scoring thing you get, although I'm still on a ratio of about 2.9:1 to the good.

Mind you, I suppose it was kinda realistic, I did suddenly chop my throttle in close formation without warning the guys behind. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Cheers, Spinner

Actually there is hardly any difference between "normal" and "realistic". The only noticable difference is that realistic settings does not allow external views.

There is a massive difference between "normal" and "easy" though.

Understand, and I accept your oppinion Huxley. Differences between default 'normal' and default 'realistic' diffic. settings are almost NONE primarily because no icons. So my question is (for 'normal' or similar---custom settings with 1st page all on---{vulnerab., real.gunnery, limited ammo,etc..}) by 'similar settings' I mean 'normal' with ICONS ON.
'Easy' settings, well this isn't suppose to be arcade or am I wrong... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

As far as campaign length, of course I mean that campaign started 1940...

THX for your answers http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oh I forgot to mention I completed russian fighter campaign from 1940 with 'normal' settings + icons on http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
currently playing finn. campaign, also with 'normal' settings + icons on, completed 6 missions with hurri...

tryed 'realistic' but that's very bad idea, if we know that 'ACES' will be soon in stores, and to complete campaign (1940 on) you have to spend several months of continuous playing for hours every day http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Finished both Russian fighter campaigns and played a few missions of the IL-2 (but got bored http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif). Tried some of the bombing campaigns but dislike night missions. Lousy solider I know http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Having said all this, I only play abbreviated campaign lengths with shortened target distances. But I fly to and from without any help (i.e., auto-pilot).

Also, I use icons (toggled), padlock, speedbar and map icon. Not full realistic as asked in the poll.

There are only two types of aircraft - fighters and targets. (Major Doyle "Wahoo" Nicholson, USMC Fighter Pilot)

I never finished one. I wanted to make it from the beginning of the war to the end without dying. I just couldn't do it. If the AI were smarter it would have been a more realistic goal, but as they are my wingman wouldn't stay with me.So,everytime I died, I would start over. I made it about half way a few times, but that was it. I always used the hardest settings with all boxes checked.

Yes, I`ve made it twice on realistic settings, but not with the `Start over if I die rule`. That sounds HARD. Maybe I`ll try it soon...

I'm currently flying the P-40 Leningrad campaign and I'm doing pretty damn good. I just love the P-40. It's definetly my bird of choise. I'm also flying the finnish campaign with the Hurri. Adore that bird to!!
I've been meaning to download the RAF campaign of Extreme_one. But the link is dead!! Anyone have some advice??

i like flying the leningrad campaign but it takes my p4 like an hour to load each damn mission.

Istreliteli I have PII on 1000Mhz.. for me it takes about 25sec.-1min. to load a campaign mission. I often defragment my HDD (partition on which i install FB)... if that's don't work try fresh install http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif (of course save your campaign folder first http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif).

For 'start over or die rule' (we have new expression here http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) I think it's way too hard. Maybe if we have much, MUCH better PC's (holograms! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif) with AI intelligence human - like. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I've been playing for about 2 years now, and have finished a handful (7-8?)of campaigns at (mostly) realistic settings, but I don't accept collisions as a valid campaign-ender; I fly those missions over.

Currently I am flying the Leningrad campaign in 1942 w/ P40Es, and the Finnish campaign in 1942 w/ B239s.

I have never played out an entire CAREER, though. Closest I have come so far is a Luftwaffe pilot who completed 102 missions with 123 kills. He got killed in 1944 as a result of an undetected head-on pass by a La5fn.
