View Full Version : Problems with patches

Hi all

My copy of FB + AEP finally arrived today, although still waiting on my joystick. Anyway i tried to install it three times before i was successful, and i eventially found out that my problem was that of patches. I tried following the texts with each patch, to no avial and now the only way i've got it running it without a patch. So what i need to know is in what order do i need to install the patches. I am sick of reinstalling it each time i get it wrong, so can someone please do me a BIG favour and spell it out for me. I'm starting from a box version, that's NO patches yet installed on it.

Thus i need the order and name of each patch to be able to play online. I'm hoping my Joystick arrives tomorrow so i can play online.

Thanks in advance

* First *

Make a backup game folder so you don't have to install again from CD.

I "forgot" the exact Pach sequence, naturally. But, with the FB+AEP you should start with a 2.xy number. Ignore any 1.xy Patches. AEP is basically version 2.00

Also ignore any 3.xx and 4.xx patches unless you own a copy of Pacific Fighters.

For FB + AEP the order is:
#1: 2.01
#2: 2.04

#3.: As your intention is to play online:
Forget about #1 and #2.
Buy and install PF instead!
#4: Install 3.03m (100 MB)
#5: Install 4.01m (140 MB)

i don't have PF, and don't intend on buying it any time soon, so what patches do i thus need? To play online that is...

For patching guide, and good reading while you await your delivery (it may also change your opinion of 'buying it any time soon' re: PF) checkout:

Airwarfare (http://www.airwarfare.com/guides/patching.htm)

Limited number of servers online not using PF merged btw http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well... no patch will help you play online just with FB+AEP. There is nobody who plays that. Most of the comunity plays FB+AEP+PF on 4.01 version and a few FP only players. So if you want to play online you need PF.

As Bearcat is fond of saying, "Just consider it the best 5 disc WWII flight sim ever made" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I've now bought PF, so did a merged PF + FB + AEP installation, downloaded one patch and installed that one (303m) and am now downloading the last one 401m. While downloading i decided to see what it was like partly fully patched, so doubleclicked the shortcut to run. The game seems to launch correctly, the CD spinns and a launcher appears, showing the pic of the plane attacking the ship, etc. Then nothing. CD continues to spin but nothing else happens. After a few minins of this i kill it. Won't die either, short of restarting. WHAT'S GOING ON!!!

Hopefully the last patch will fix this, but i have my doubts.

someone plz help me i'm getting desperate!

It can take a while to load, be patient http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif think how many discs there are and the information contained on them, that is all part of the game you are starting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If it still doesn't run head over to community help and post your Dxdiag there.

If you haven't turned off the intro movie, it'll take up to 3 minutes before it does anything after the initial splash... this is the load time for the landscape and models used in the intro movie (a recording of a mission played in the game, not a CGI video).

Start the IL2Setup.exe utility in the game folder and uncheck the intro box if you want it to load faster.
