View Full Version : Track IR issue

I've had Track IR4 with vector clip on the ball cap brim for a couple of months now and I really like it.
There is only one glitch that I can't seem to fix. When I am dog fighting and watching my opponent abeam or over my shoulder I suddenly find myself looking at the bottom of the cockpit and then by the time I consciously look at the center of the monitor and hit F12 ( by default), I've lost sight and then the fight.
This only seems to happen at the worst possible moment. I can't replicate it in normal flying.
I've adjusted the house lighting, head shake on/off, smoothing on/off etc.
Could this be a built in handicapping feature?
Has anyone else had this sort of thing happen?
Any advice?

I've had similiar issues and its usually due to a light source or a track IR centering problem.

Open Track Ir, click on View, then Tracking and a window will open that shows the three Vector green lights and any unwanted red lights causing erratic behavior.

First make sure the three green lights are in the middle of the window or else they could lose contact when you move your head. Position Track Ir accordingly.

If you also have some red lights in the window, click on Settings at the bottom right and another window will open titled Tracking Settings. In this window check Light Filtering then adjust slider until the red lights disappear.

This should make Track IR much smoother for you.

Also make sure your clip is not bent up, I had severe problems after sitting on mine before, lol.

Yes good point. The three reflectors must be pointing parallel to each other for best results.

I get best results by using only one reflector and choosing "DOT" in the setup http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for the advice Chivas, it solved the problem!
By increasing Light Filtering to 195 It got rid of the red and the erratic behavior.
Now I'm left with no excuses. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

Also worthwhile noting (maybe not as much for 'newer' Track IR users like you -unless you smoke maybe...)that the refelctive strips and the tracker itself can get covered in a film of invisible mucky gunk which can seriously upset the operation of this wonderful device!

And what if I have still a lot of red and yellow dots behind me, even with light filtering maxed out, and the curtain pulled? I can even see my face in the tracking windowhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Wow...maybe there are some lightsources behind the TIR that are bouncing off objects behind you.

Try turning off all the lights in the room and maybe using a good astringent. Try the TIR support page too. They're pretty responsive.
