I was flying the original IL2 Sturmovik online yesterday. I am one of the few who never took it off the hard disk I guess. Now and then there are a few guys with a server for it online.

Everybody has so many issues with the flight models of this or that plane now, I guess they need to fly the original IL2 again or at all to see how far everything has come and all the work that has been done on this sim which is now in it's fourth year.

One really funny thing with the 109 in IL2 1.2 is if you take it straight up until it near stalls and pull it over backward it suddenly locks solid into a mode as if it is inverted on the tracks at the top of a roller coaster hill. It goes over quite mechanically, and then is released and sent earthward nose first.

Then there is the zooming ability of all planes being so close, especially the AI. In QMB you can zoom and boom a group of I-16s and all of the sudden they are right up there with you, as if they had a JATO rocket they kicked in.

You hear from time to time some saying how this or that was much better in the original, well that is a bunch of Krap. Year after year, and patch after patch, our memories are lost and cannot be trusted. Jumping into any version of the original IL2 or even most of the pre-AEP versions of FB is an eye-opener as to how good we have it.

I recently re-installed FB, and instead of doing it the quick way, I went through every old patch that came out over the years, I still have them all, precious possesions downloaded a kilobyte at a time on 56k. I installed every patch and flew the same 16 vs. 16 scenario over with each one, to get an idea of the evolution we have been a part of. It was fun and informative.

That is why I get sad when I see this and that punk complaining about this plane or that feature or this campaign detail. There is absolutely no appreciation for what has been done for us as long as $hit like this is on the forums. I include myself in this rogues gallery, as I am sure over the past three plus years I have started as much petty krap as anyone here. But at least I now feel bad about it.

It has got to take the wind out of Oleg Maddox's and the rest of the workers sails to see the kind of Krap we post on these forums and the insight it gives them into the kind of poeple they are working for. Proof that theirs is a labor of love.

I sure as $h1t would not work my ba11s of to give a bunch of bickering !diots a gift like we have in this sim. And I would take patch 4.0 and burn it and go live on an island somewhere.
That we do have it means that there are some poeple out there above us and our pettiness. Deep thanks for that. S!

I still fly the original, much more enjoyable community of players.Although it is a small one, still like it more.Less planes, thus less whiners.I prefer it because I don't have to listen to people cry about what wrong with the sim because everyone who still flies in the original knows it won't change so why even bother with the crying.

Well said...I went back to FB1.0 when I had to reinstall sometime ago and I felt it to be totally lacking compaired to the system that we've got in place now...things were much more artificial in the FMs and whatnot than the latest.

Absolutely, there has been great progress made. I hope we can retain some of it in BoB rather than just starting the process all over.

Yep, BearDude is right here, this is a great post. Maybe it will help some folks get a bit of perspective... yeah, I know, but hope springs eternal I guess!

I think the P-39 had a more realistic stall back then. At least it seemed to act as we read about the real plane.

The Best piece of software to ever go on a Hard Drive.

For my X partner who I am now indebted

If it were not for your awful personality. I would not have dumped you & bought a PC with all that newfound extra cash I had again.
If it were not for your awful personality. I would have not discovered my new love IL2 & spent 3+ years in happy bliss with her.
If it were not for your awful personality. I would have no life now worth living.

I Thank You

Its Hear, Hear when i remember right.

Originated in the British parliament in the 18th century as a contraction of 'hear him, hear him'. It is still often heard there although sometimes used ironically these days.

Yeah, I miss the IL-2 version of the BF-109 supercharger whine. Other than that, what we have now is outstanding. I am one spoiled dude! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
