I hear there is an old add on from pluswave called wings over the jungles. I live in the Uk, does anyone know where i can purchase the game.

Never heard of it mate. But there are 1000's of great IL2 missions and campaigns for free at mission4today without having to buy any addons.

Waldo's review?

Sadly, it was 2 thumbs down.

I have Wings over Waves and the other one...Rebirth of Honour, or whatever it's called.

I found them to absolutely incredible additions to the game. The maps are far more detailed (airfields etc) than anything you will find anywhere else, and the missions involve plenty of aircraft, and varied action ( how about an interception of 3 Catalinas picking up stranded crewmen from US submarines, with crew and subs and Catalinas on the surface about to take off!!!).

Here are some old screenshots showing detail from one of the airfields:

Did I say they were good? - YES!!!!!

I forgot to say - you also get hundreds of very nice skins with these games!!!

Its a shame then that Pluswave dont appear to have them available for download then.

I found the link to the place I bought my add-ons. They are quite expensive for delivery, and when I bought mine ( a couple of years ago) they were sent by FedEx to Sweden where I live, and I had to make sure I was home on the delivery day they gave me!!!!

Here, bottom of the page:

BTW I think I said something wrong before....I have Rebirth of Honour and Wings over Jungles. Both are excellent!!!!
They have great airbases!!!
...and 'the skins, the skins the skins'!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif :-)

Those are really nice.

In the site provided there seems to be a Battle of Britain add on that requires mods, is this on?

Damn $50+ for each of them.(included the shipping) I'd pay that much for all of them together though.

09-17-2009, 03:27 AM
I would buy this just for having this skins! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

But it's a bit bit expensive yeah...

09-17-2009, 05:04 AM
So what do you get with the add ons? just skins and missions?

09-17-2009, 05:54 AM
They are great, I think these people are called Desastersoft or something now.

Great addons, but a tad bit expensive for my tastes. 29 to 39 Euro for a addon for a game that now costs 10 Euro.

The Wings Over series is a good alternative history line. Worth playing. Try E-bay, maybe you can find a used one for about 10 Euro plus shipping.

Details for each of them.

I purchased Wings Over Waves and Wings Over Jungle from www.gogamer.com (http://www.gogamer.com) a couple of years ago but they are now listed on that site as out of stock. It looks like you can still order them from Pluswave but you need to send them an e-mail.

I can testify that the campaigns are very well written and try to follow the original history as much as possible (with a little poetic license for the sake of the story).

As mentioned, the skins are incredible. The only caveat is that the mission briefings are in broken English which is a bit of an immersion killer (this doesn't apply to the German version obviously).

Blakduk rewrote the mission briefings for Wings over Waves. The script is available at mission4today. Here's a link (you'll need to be logged into M4T for the link to work):

You get missions and skins. If I remember correctly they are pretty easy to install ('Rebirth of Honour' need a bit more work than 'Wings over Jungles'). There are full instructions on the disc.
Missions are very well written, with detailed airfields and many planes in the air. The scenarios are be a bit more interesting than the stock IL2/1946 dynamic missions.

I had some problems running the missions (lots of aircraft) because I was using a 3 year old machine (that was more than a year ago though), but they should give no problems at all if you have a pretty new one.

I must admit I never got far into the campaigns because I just wanted to re-fly the same missions over and over. This was because they were fun and challenging, and shouldn't be taken as criticism.

I don't think the skins are all historically accurate. There are easily enough good skins to satisfy anyones need though. I particullarly liked the P39 skins.
The red colour on the skins look too crimson, but this is a minor issue.

I agree that the price is high, but you really do get quality. The airfields are not only well populated, they are realistically laid out too. I think they add to the immersion of the game.

The site I linked to has other add-ons that are not made by Pluswave. I have no experience of these; can't comment on them.

So you think that they are worth $40 each?

The site I linked to is expensive, they may be found cheaper elsewhere.

EDIT: here are the add-ons for 31 dollars (I don't know anything about this site though):
