whats a good starter speed, ive set parameters at 300kph but always way over at 60percent power etc. Any suggestions as to Ias/tas and approximate throttle. My current default build settings are 2300m 300kph 4 fab 250. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

I think AWL_Spinner is working on a bombing chart for the PE-2. I betcha he's got some pretty good advice.

My favorite method of attack is flat out, on the deck, with ten second delay on my FABs. Pilot releases bombs. I believe this is in keeping with the hell-for-leather tradition of the Soviet Pe-2 aircrews. Crude but effective. Follow the run with a wrenching turn to confront any Luftwaffe pursuers. I love the Pe-2's guns---nice to not be completely dependent on gunners like with the 88.

The very low approach, as outlined above, is probably best or else a dive attack (useful to convert a level attack into a dive one if fighters jump you while at the bombsight - continuing straight & level isn't much use, but a steep dive might throw them off for a while).

If you do go for the level bombing method you can either use the IAS/TAS chart from one of the game disks to convert the IAS to TAS for use in the bombsight or else the following formula, which is derived from that table, so gives the same result:

Add 7% per 1000m of alt. So add 7 kph to the IAS for every 100 kph IAS and every km of alt. So with your figures of 300 kph IAS at 2300m, you'll add (7 x 3 x 2.3) = 48.3 kph. It's quite good enough to keep things simple, so the sums can be done in your head, ie, 7 x 3 x 2.3 = 21 x 2-and-a-bit = 50 => TAS is 350 kph.

One thing I don't like about the Pe-2 rear gunner is the complete inability to sight the gun to the right of the gunner beyond about the 6.30 position. The gun does have quite a wide arc out to the right; you just can't aim it. I assume the AI can aim just as well in all areas, so, unfortunately, have to leave it to him sometimes - unless the fighter obligingly comes straight in behind me, as some do.

Instead of remembering that equation, go get your AEP CD #2, put it it, look in My Computer/Drive the CD is in, open up MANUAL, open I think IAS/TAS Chart, print, put on desk, level bomb away.

Another method is to fly at top speed on the deck until almost on the target and then climb hard until you have an excellent perspective on the target area. Thereafter, execute a scorching shallow dive attack with brakes up or a steep dive with brakes down. These "pop-up" methods are more likely to catch you a fatal flak hit, but, unless you have memorized the target area perfectly, they give you a better chance to get a target lined up than the on the deck method. Of course, the Pe-2 excels at the designed dive bombing attack from medium altitude---not as high tech as the Ju 88A-4 (no automatic pull-out)---but it cuts the mustard.

Nothing hard about level bombing. Just give the bombsight your altitude above the target (might be less then altimeter is pointing at) and the True Air Speed wich you can see in the so called "wonder woman view" (Press CTRL-F1) Level autopilot keeps you level and a slider on my X-52 does the rudder trim. This way, you don't have to be at an exact altitude and exact speed to bomb. Just fly at the speed and alt you just happen to be at.

But what if you're flying full real and No Cockpit view is unavailable?

There is a utility called "Bombsight table 2" made by WT_Pitr and WT_Pedropan.

With it you can bomb from 6 000 meters quite acurate (meaning that hiting ships or a single tank is dificult/luck-based from that high).

It looks like this:

You will find it here:
Airfare fb_esential_files (http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_essential_files.htm)

third utility.

Dont forget about Shift+Pause shortcut. It makes the app show/hide. It took me many time till I noticed it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

For immersion, I've got an excel sheet with a TAS/IAS table on it for accurate bombing. Heigt increments of 50m and speed increments of 5km/h. I can mail you the table or give you the formula so you can make your own table. It is very easy to make one in metric or imperial units.
