do this easy experiment:

look to an object 1 m away from you and put your index finger in the middle 10cm from your eyes

this is a floating 3d image from the magic eye, maybe you know it

you have to look far so you see it double as it is close then the circles overimpose

if the circles overimpose converging the rays from your eyes 2m away from you youll feel thats the distance of the circles

but in this case there are close circles(0.5cm distance) thatll make your eyes converge close with which the circles will appear close and circles that are 2 cm apart which will make your eyes converge farther giving the feeling of being farther

well as you have checked with the index experiments in which either you see double far or close this is totally different, you dont see double you have TRUE DEPTH

this have me clueless, maybe we should look with the rays of eyes totally parallel and let the brain build the 3d depth feeilng, hey maybe even somebody does, or even im an exception

I see double when focusing far, and single when focusing on the finger. Unsurprisingly I might add.

Finger is double when focusing far.
Faris double when focusing on the finger.

This is how it should be - when the two eyes point at the finger they are pointing at differnt places in the distance...and the other way around.

I just got a slap for putting up my finger! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

yes thats what i had supposed, but how do you explain that magic eye image:

when you see the circles double to experience the 3d effect how can you overimpose the ones that are 2 cm apart and the ones that are 1 cm apart at the same time?

this should be imposible according the way sight works, but your brain some how over impose circles, even ones that are at more distance apart than others?

can anybody explain this or a hit into a mistery?

They wont superimpose exactly, that's why some of the cirlces look double (just like your finger in the first example you gave). I think that the circles are spaced so that they match each other well when viewed the right way, even if they look randomly spaced..

Here's another magic eye, you should see an indentation (hollow) in the shape of a big heart if you view it correctly.

Very cool. I've never seen that, although it did take sometime to make it work.

It makes your eyes cross just slightly to give the 3d effect.

Things to consider:

vision, at least 3 dimensional, is a triangulation.

your brain knows where your eyes are crossed, and not just by vision.

So I guess your brain percieves two triangulations and is simply jumping back and forth between the trangulations at a high rate.

After all, it is the triangulation that tells us the distance to an object.

To prove this, close one eye and reach for things. It's much easier to judge the distance with both eyes open. Look at the dots again and when you have the 3d effect, close one eye. Then it's 2d.

Major-S, I see four levels. Each one smaller as it gets deeper.

As much as I've never seen this stuff before. Finally, I know what everyone's talking about. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Optical illusions are fun too. I came across this:

I have an aircraft skin made from an optical illusion like this. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

if you see any of the circles double you are not doing correctly

you should see them perfectly focused but unlike real life youll feel ones are closer and others far, not double

actually seeing this stereograms are extreamly difficult some of them

the reason for this is thet your brain has to do the trick of overimpose images that are different distances apart

take figure number 1 from here and see how letters in each line are much farther apart:

http://archive.museophile.org/3d/ascii-3d.html

myself with the meds im having cant see a thing in this ascii stereograms but they let you anderstand how 3d works specialle figures 1 and 2

the flower stereogram proves my point farther

its a bad stereogram, you can recognize a heart

well the flowers that are over the heart, closer, are 3 cm apart, the flowers that are behind the heart, farther, are 3.4 cm apart

but when you are looking to the flowers that shape the heart, close, you dont see the far flowers double

according the way sight works this shouldnt happen but it does

you have a true depth feeling instead of seeing double

be honest, youve seen the finger double when looking far, but do you see the flowers that are 3.4 cm apart double when you are looking at the flowers that are 3 cm apart or viceversa?

this is extreamly ODD

you are seeing and indentation cause you are doing it wrong

you do it cross eyed( your eyes rays cross before the screen)

they should cross behind

to do this get very close to the screen so the flowers image overimpose in each eye and slowly get farther keeping them over impose, focus and tachan

your method is valid but cross eyed is much more difficult than looking behind the screen and makes it much more difficult to understand

try it my way and youll see true depth contrary to ordinary life

Here are my optical illusion skins - look from one wing to the other to see the effect:

I made wallpapers frm similar illusions too:

Raaaid,

This stuff might help you to conduct experiments using the power of the Mind's Eye:
