Hope it arent reposts, anyway, how can one not love the I-16!? I guess when you have to fight them... Just look at how they can spin... Crazy!

I like it very much! And it was made by Polikarpov, need I say more?

Some irrelevant gun camera in there, apparently Me-163s got shot down by I-16s once in a while! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Otherwise very nice, that's one plane with lots of character!

Was lucky enough to be able to see one of these great little planes flying in Everett Washington this past summer with Beebop and Dubbo. At the Flying Heritage Collection.

even though it wasnt an I16 who shot down the Me163 it still quite an accomplishement..didnt look like it was gliding.

I16 surely have a personality...i remember once in the early days of Il2 flying online one of the first time i suddenly found myself fighting alot of Me109's in an I16..and ended out with 4 kills..think that was first time i had more than 2 kills a sortie.

I have NEVER seen this stuff before. I16s flying around in real flight! Thankyou very much! One of my favourite aircraft that I never knew existed before IL2!

...and they DO have character!

(p.s. But some of those shots are NOT of an I16 shooting aircraft down. Some of those planes are too fast and never met I16s and I think one is even an Allied plane! I don`t even think I16s had guncams even.)

WHAT was the deal in that first video with the extended windscreen and that HUGE telescopic sight?

I noticed at least one Hurricane in the guncam vids. There was also a rare H-112 in one.

Looks to me like the Flying Heritage Emil which I believe is flyable but usually doesn't.

Dude - from the link I posted.

This aircraft: This Bf 109-E was manufactured in Germany and deployed in October 1939. Piloted by Eduard Hemmerling, it flew primarily over France. Hemmerling shot down a British Spitfire on July 7, 1940, while escorting Stuka dive-bombers that were attacking British ships in Dover harbor. Later that month he destroyed a British Blenheim bomber and another British plane. But his own aircraft was mortally wounded, and Hemmerling turned back toward France. His failing airplane crashed off the coast of Cap Blanc Nez, killing the 27-year-old pilot. In 1988, a man walking on the beach near Calais noticed a piece of metal sticking out of the sand—the tip of this plane's wing.

Yes Dubbo did take the pictures and that you saw on M4T. Beebop posted them if memory serves. My camera is a terrible old POS. (with rubber bands holding it together and everything!) Getting a new camera and going back for more this summer!

Thanks

I may have searched youtube and found the videos there that I was thinking I saw at M4T.

From the Flying Heritage Collection:
Bf109 and I-16 flyby (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IYipgnxdMk)
Bf109 and I-16 flyby 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIP7bRGaW_c)
I-16 Taxiing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xrzb0Zk6qg)

I seem to remember seeing a better video but I couldn't find it at the moment.

Dubbo did not take that footage of the I-16. That footage was taken from outside the fence. We were inside the Museum hanger and had an excellent view of the start-up and taxi to the runway part of the display.

Dubbo did take some footage of BOTH of the planes that flew that day, as did I. But my videos were rubbish so I tossed them out. Dub's footage of the Bf was better. I think he missed the actual startup of the I-16. Here is Dub's footage of the Bf that I converted and merged into a single file.

Hi Waldo

I wasn't saying that Dubbo took that footage.
Just that I remember searching youtube and finding it later.

Be dowloading yours to look at later.
