You might want to check out the History Channel now. The Wake Island 2 hr program... THE ALAMO OF THE PACIFIC.

It's a story of survival on a desert island--and it helped change the course of WWII! Within hours of the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, about 1,600 US marines and civilians found themselves under surprise attack from Japan on a tiny Pacific Island. In a 2-hour special, we take six survivors of the siege of Wake Island back to the scene of their heroic stand. They retrace those horrific days in which they suffered eventual capture, beatings, and imprisonment--yet survived to tell their stories.

I love this program. This is what the History Channel does best, explode the myths around a particular battle. In the Hollywood movie "Wake Island", you're lead to believe that every man jack of em died with their boots on, fighting to the last. In reality they didn't, not because of cowardice or because they weren't willing to "go down swinging" but because their commander ordered them to surrender. This is something I never knew before.

A Well made program from the History Channel with Excellent stories from survivers of both sides. Hope they continue with more of this type of programs by gathering the stories from the Vet's that were there at the time of the many battles of WWII.

By the way... I have a copy of the Wake Island movie... have to say it's one of my favorite of the war time flicks even though it is total propaganda. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I bought the movie last month on DVD. I've watched it twice. I love it as well. No sense letting a little thing like "historical accuracy" ruin a good yarn!!!!

They did blast a few transports and a destroyer by letting them in close. They did pretty well with what they had. I've never been able to figure out what they were using as Vals in that movie. Haven't seen it in decades though.

Enforcer572005... I cant find the info or detail or the aircraft used in Wake Island as the Japanese fill in. But if it was the one I think it is... it was used in quite a few of the WWII Hollywood movies at the time as a fill in for the Japanese fighter or etc.

I believe it to be a Ryan SCM or SCW Trainer.
