View Full Version : New to Il-2...Problems

12-24-2004, 09:27 PM
I'm new to computers, games, etc. My wife gave me Il-2 for Christmas, and we got it loaded up, but the computer refuses to recognize my joystick. When I attempt to calibrate, it reads roll and pitch on the rudder pedals, and doesn't see the joystick. I don't have this problem on FS 2004 or CFS 3. This looks like an awesome sim, but I can't believe a company would sell a product without some kind of manual to at least get a person started! It took two hours to figure out how to start the engine, then immediately crashed because the game wouldn't recognize the joystick. I know I'm ranting, but I'm really frustrated. I hope someone can at least get me started. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Run game
Click "Controls"
go to bottom of list under "HOTAS"
see the x (aerelons)- y (elevator) - z (yaw/rudder) axis...

click to the right - then move the axis you want it assigned to (in an increase item fashion)

p.s. I hope ya got this much axis http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Do this in a Quick Mission (just press P (Pause) then Esc (then goto controls etc http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ) apply -resume game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif and try (again) untill right

Also go into Hardware - Input
set your profile per axis (how plane behaves)

lol good luck

and eh - read the pdf files (depends on version - on the cd or in your game dir http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif - dont forget the readme.* file either http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Don't give up on this simm, its worth a few points on the blood pressure scale. You will have better luck with your question in the tech forum but for now click your heels and scream TULLY!!!!

He ain't called the joystick man for nothing.

Strange as I recall my original IL2 came with a manual as did all the expansion packs. It also came with a folding controls list and guage indentification chart.

The manual is either on the cd it think or as a PDF in the game folder, if it is not recognising your joystick on your windows, go start... all programs.... find the ubisoft one for the game, open it and go to the last window in there click on setup, look at the joystick window from the tab at the top and tick the use joystick window if it isnt set, you can calib it up there too. also on the set up window untick the box at the bottom left to turn off the loading movie if you dont want to see it everytime.

Stick with it because it really rocks as a game.

if you cannot find the manual i will email one off my disc to you, just PM me on this site dont post your addy on here

Thanks for all the help. I had looked at the read-me in the program, but I didn't realize that the assignments for the joystick weren't set by the program. In the other two flight sims I have, the commands are already set. I got it going (finally), and am starting to get a handle on it. Still have some tuning to do, but I'm getting it.
My CD came packaged with the rudder pedals. I guess that's why it didn't have any manual with it. I'm pretty good with mechanical things, because I can pick them apart and figure out how they work. I've only been dealing with computers for a little over a year, and I'm still in the dark on most of it.
This is one kickin' sim. I've flown general aviation a good bit, and this is pretty realistic, better than CFS 3 by a lot.
Thanks again.

Do you have IL2? If you have IL2 that is a very good introduction to the product. I am assuming you have the CH pedals. You will want topatch IL2 if that is what you have... get patchches here (http://www.3dgamers.com/games/il2sturmovik/downloads/). Download the 1.0>1.1 and the 1.1>1.2 patches. If you only have the original IL2 I can almost gaurantee you that you will want to get Forgotten Battles... which is even better than IL2 im my opinion. Should you decide to get Forgotten Battles get the Forgotten Battles Aces GOLD pack ($29 US) and then get Pacific Fighters ($39 US). If you order PF from UBI you can also get LOMAC (Lock On Modern Air Combat) for free.

Welcome aboard!!!! I see you do have some simming experience......you are going to love this sim (FB). Il2 will only whet your appetite.
