View Full Version : Some online gameplay types?

Personally, I am really looking forward to the online aspect of playing. So lets toss out some fun gametype ideas for XboxLive/PSN/ect.

Here are some that I would like to see (Yes, some are obvious):

- Dogfight: Every man for himself

- Team Dogfight: Up to 8 players a team

- Escort: One player on each team is given a "VIP" status, need I say how you score points?

- Attack and Defend: One team must destroy and enemy ground base. Base is protected by NPC anti-are guns and ground-to-air missles. Defending team must protect the base for a given amount of time. Teams switch sides after each round and can rechoose aircraft after each round. There is a respawn delay.

- Ace Modes (Copies all other gametypes but with these rules): Cockpit views only, limited ammunition that can be refueled by landing or docking with an air-refueling station. Limited Radar. Stealth planes avoid radar altogether. Reduced plane health, one missle kills.

So post any ideas you got, and what you think of mine, woo!

Very nice modes, now if Ubi are listening ?

Another contender ?

Ground Zero - multi player online

Two teams objective - destroy ground sequential targets bunker/ building/ bullseye.

Both teams attack but can also eliminate other enemy team members in pursuit of objective. Team members can fly wing for cover and the objectives are sequential (target Alpha, Bravo Charlie).

Main difference is the ground targets are not protected by SAM or AA but by the built up town/ city/ pylons/. Main boggies are the opposite team. One point per objective.

Low level high speed flight & lightning reactions are the order of the day.

Seriously, Did UbiSoft call this game a Sim ?
As far as I remember they said NOT A SIM but
a hybrid of arcade & Sim.

NOT A SIM.

to be honest we all probably feel the same, a find balance between Sim & Arcade is very important, as this is a multi platform title (as most are becoming), the chances are it will have a fair bit of arcade because of the PS3 & X360 audience. I'm not saying they want total arcade but they are more focused to that side.

If only Ubisoft devs, incorporate a facility to go from mixed mode to more advanced mode ( semi simulation) that will be a good feature. I can't see this title being a true sim, but a high speed version of the best arcade with the flavourings of simulation.

I too would love a mode built in that was pure hardcore/ simulation but I will fall off my chair if that happened.

The main thread topic is about possible game modes, if Ubisoft get them 1/2 decent then we can have some real fun & test of skill. They have learnt alot from the criticisms from past titles like GRAW Series. I give them the benefit of the doubt only because there are companies that don't listen to the community & Ubi do sometimes listen and act.

All of them would be awsome. The attack and defend one sounds fun.

Those are some great ideas.

The Team Dogfight sounds like it could get especially hairy. I can totally see a team working tightly together dominating a mode like that against a bunch of "Mavericks" if you will (early in the movie I mean... before he learns an important lesson about teamwork by playing beach volleyball or something).

These game types mean nothing if we are forced to have a blimp view, I mean, how will you even distinguish targets from way out there? just too hard to tell IMO.

In this post the Ubi staff state Blimp mode is only one extra view option in advanced mode along with the default views.

" What are the available view options for the game? I would really like to play from a cockpit perspective.</span>

You will have a specific realistic cockpit view for each of the more than 50 aircrafts featured in the game.

The view options are dependant on what Assistance mode you are in.
When using "assistance ON", you can access 3rd person camera with 360 degree controls, cockpit view, and 1st person camera.
When using "assistance OFF" you have access to the special dogfight camera.
We are currently working on the cockpit view, which explains why we cannot show it to you right now.

Other general cameras includes: Weapon camera, replay camera, and cinematic camera.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm neither defending or attacking this title, I'm only trying to be objective with what little we have been told.

We get more info. from the actual screen shots & videos than Ubi so far, hopefully that will change.

I believe this title will be part arcade with a good twist of Simulation, which bits is to debate, but one thing is for sure, it is in Ubisofts best interest to make the title appeal to the masses and if the masses want hard core then hardcore sprinkles should be severed.

I personally find true 110% hardcore a bit too much, I like a blend of realism & and authenticity with a sprinkle of dream-world.

They will not make us all happy but if they get 75% of the real pilots interested, then they could be on a winner. It only remains to see what the demo gives us all & the devs videos & blog page.

I know it's been a long time for me, because the real sims were too much and the arcade versions too little, there needs to be a balance between the two, but swung slightly into the simulation world. We all like choice, the more the better, the ability to have unlimited ammo for fun, too restricted, to real load outs.... is one example of making the balance right.

I hope we all get alot of what we all want, an Aircraft game that reaches new levels of skill & fun, setting the bar for the rest to follow and beat......

...you can also switch things up and play a team deathmatch. There's just one adversarial mode and the entire goal is to get the most kills as a team.

Hurricane Mode- all gametypes but your restricted to the cockpit and only have access to your on board cannon, a true test of your dogfighting skills (if your wondering about the name its named after the Hawker Hurricane)

Wingman- 2 players a team, 4 Teams max with emphasis on teamwork to be the last men/girls flying (no respawn)like Over G's Arena mode

Since not a lot is going on i thought it would be fun to reboot this thread
Two Blazing Angels 2 gametype's with a little Clancy twist

Reconnaissance (CTF)
Each team has a base and everyone is fitted with reconnaissance pods (like the RAPTOR on the Tornado) the idea is to get within a certain distance to the enemy's base, and a countdown will start up while inside the perimeter(you recon pod gathering information and pictures). Once the countdown completes you have to return to base and land. (amount of time's this is necessary depends on settings)

Air Superiority (Epic Battle)
basically the same map layout as BA2 5 bases, 2 home bases, three neutral. To capture a neutral base fly within its perimeter and stay there until a countdown ends and you've secured Air superiority (if an enemy enters the perimeter the countdown halts)
Every base offers a kind of indirectly helpful bonus like a radar station which improves missile performance and lock on, or an artillery base which you can use against the bases the enemy captured
To capture an enemy base is more risky. It now has SAM launchers and AA guns which you have to destroy, and can attack you. Once they've been destroyed a flight of plane's(AC-130 or V-22) fly in to drop off airborne troops, they have to be defended until they can drop off, and capture the base for you.
If your team captures all three bases. A countdown will start and you will have to destroy the other team's base in a set amount of time to win the game. to keep it balanced the losing side will have access to their own supports which are more direct(like a volley of AIM-120's launched form a B-1R). If the winning team fails to destroy the base, the first three bases you could capture become neutral again.
In the case that neither home base is destroyed the team that held the most bases wins

One were you have to take off and teamwork is the key element,
a 1 on 1 cage match were you face a person in a small area.
HARDCORE more sim like mode, less hud more realistic ammo.

yea but guys if they would start going around the forums and start granting all our wishes they will never complete finishing this game, its their job to make it fun for us so lets hope and have faith in them. After all its their job to make it work cause they know next HAWX will bring more money to the table. Now let me comment on one thing, you guys all say:well i dont know if its kinda arcady it might not be fun,I say bull crap,I'm sure we all want to see the planes while we are flying them in the game, thats what gives you the drive to play the game aint it?admiering their good looks, manuverability, armament power etc etc etc,oh yea and when we are at the look department you can also customize them but in realistic fashion, thats as they apear in the real world color schemes.I have never owned PS3 nor XBOX360 not any console but i have always been a pc gamer freak and I'm glad they come up with this sort of game for the pc cause the only one i played before a worthy of playing was Blazing Angels 2,its the graphics that made me play that game.Other than that I always loved the COD 1,2,4 and WAW and I was part of CAL-o and TWL division's,BUT!!! I'm so boored of them that I escape scriming with my clan and i dont iven log on to X fire at all,so I hope and I know that UBI will make this right and we will have a game to be played in longest of time, like building a new era empire,I'll keep my fingers cross on this one for UBI,it up to the rest if they want to do the same.

Oh yeah couple of things more, for the SIM lovers they'll get their cockpit view finally and get whooped naturaly.Like i said i've never owned a console so that makes me never played AC6,I just have seen some videos on you tube, the game looked very nice I've never seen such a good graphic game with modern fight jets, but the customizable color schemes were idiotically stupid.Tell me what fighter jet has ever been painted kinda redish-pinkish with flovers tag's and a cute cartoony japaneese teenager girl, thats just outrageous BS!!!!!!!Sorry for my nasty language, but it is what it is,games are not just for kids but for grown ups too LOL kinda sad but true http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

When flying, I'd like to see the inside of the cockpit. I want to admire the plane's performance and the awesome weapons I can fire or drop from my aircraft. I want to admire the pretty explosions that used to be my enemies.

Admiring the plane's good looks is for the post-mission replay video.

As someone who used to play Crimson Skies and enjoyed the league that was created for that. Also the other day I seen a really sweet Flight stick and Throttle for my pc online. I started looking for a good combat flight game or Mechwarrior style game with 0 success.

I am really looking forward to this game and I hope someone sets up a pc League. I just wish it was out before march but I guess I can wait.

what would be great is 12 on 12, 6 ground attack and 6 fighters. the ground attack go for the bunkers and units on the ground, and the fighters try to destroy the enemy ground attack planes. once the ground attack planes have expended their rockets/bombs, its an all out dogfight. the combined damage on the ground and in the air makes ur score. highest score wins!

BTR74
12-20-2008, 08:13 PM
hmmm, that would work great!
And maybe in teh future, there could be cross-game multiplayer where the guys on the ground being targeted are players on a Ghost Recon MP mode, where they have to attack/defend a related objective while attempting to survive the air assaults
We're on to something here!

hunter 'n' prey- pretty much minimum 1 on 1 dog fight, one person start's of as a prey and the other one the hunter, the hunter has to kill the prey after the hunter has killed the prey he/she then turn into the prey. And the prey turns in to the hunter. the longer your the prey the more point's you score, the prey can also fend off from the hunter

How about a "Naval Siege battle". Opposing teams destroy both the each others destroyers, battleships etc, as well as enemy aircraft. Each downed ship would both reduce flak, and help determine the eventual victory outcome as the remaining ships fire cannons and torpedo's sinking the losing teams fleet. The ship AI would be smart and actively battle the opposing fleet. Destruction of the enemy Aircraft Carrier behind a wall of flak at the back of the fleet would slow down enemy respawns for a predetermined time.

The setting would be over open ocean with islands in the distance. This would an unconventional map (and probably a favorite) since most maps are over land. I think just a map centered over open water would be something different and fun.

Since people have been discussing more realistic options.
Hardcore mode: No Respawn, Realistic ammo and damage and weapon performance, Accurate fuel consumption, cockpit view only, No assistance, take off and landings are the only way to rearm and refuel, no off-map supports and the landing strips is an aircraft carrier

A lot of games have started copying Gears 2's Horde mode in Call of Duty it was Nazi Zombies and in Left 4 Dead there is going to be Survival.
I think you can guess where i am going with this

Raid
Unlike the other maps which are real world locations, this game takes place on a map with numerous geographical features (e.g. canyons and mountains) to make it easier to outwit your enemy. Your supports are also on the map meaning you must defend them however they return at the end of each wave.
The game supports 8 players and the enemy attacks from multiple directions and the capability of the A.I. and how advanced the aircraft they are flying increases with each wave as does there numbers and the different type's of situations you have to tackle at once
type's of enemy's include:
Fighters: they simply go after you
Attackers: they go after your supports lone wolf style
Squadrons of bombers: These replace attackers on the higher difficulties and on the highest levels have fighter escorts
Electronic warfare aircraft: they can interfere with your radar, ERS, ability to talk to team mates and call in supports (to what extent depends on what wave you are on)
Armies: unlike the attackers and bombers which try to destroy your supports these guys capture them and turn them against you and gain better anti-air capability when they capture them in order to defend them, you'll have to destroy your own support if it is captured

There is no respawn until after each wave and if everyone dies its game over
