View Full Version : New "instructional" video on range and convergence

08-22-2006, 12:02 AM
"Determining distance using the gun sight (as a guide to developing convergence)" was mostly an attempt to get back into making movies.

For pretty much the last year I've been hither and yon and unable to dedicate time to making movies - and the few that I started got wiped off my hard drive for a variety of reasons and causes.

(26.7 MB, .wmv format, zipped to prevent streaming)

1) Yes, I know I mispronounced "Hurricane;" no way around it, I'm both American and Southern, and that "a" is pronounced as a long vowel no matter what I do.

2) It ain't perfect - it's "Gooder Enough."

3) Apologies to my dial-up friends. I made a lower-rez version and it just came out horrible.

4) There are two factual errors in the thing. They're very minor, and since I spotted it after completion and upload, I ain't fixing it. Can y'all spot them?

5) There's some geometry in there - I debated removing it, but if I make other gunnery films, it'll come in handy as baseline knowledge. Plus, as a former Artilleryman, I'm gonzo for mils and the OT factor.

6) I used the Hurricane as my example to keep relevance for when BoB: SoW comes out.

7) Isn't it incredible that the sim holds true to real life in the gun sights and scales?

8) I finally found out the source of the 1943 RAF gunnery phamplet - SimHQ's very own Andy Bush in one of his articles I forgot I read. Thanks, Andy, for not only previewing the film, but for reminding me where I found it.

Anyhow, I hope y'all find it helpful and entertaining.

Excellent, the visualization in the video is really great help to understand how to estimate the distance from target (which is critical for opening fire effectively).

As always, great stuff, Dart.

Anyway, great stuff Dart. I wondered why you had been so quiet recently - hamming up on trigonometry, were you?

A great vid for all new flyers (and some old ones too).

Joe, you have no idea how whipsawed I've been in the last year!

I've got some of the raw footage from the project left, but most of it got axed due to * somebody * "cleaning up some room, honey."

08-22-2006, 03:31 PM
Wow this is great! Thanks!

08-22-2006, 03:42 PM

i have shut down dart's page, because he was giving too much good information for you http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

i have many of his wonderful training videos on my HD, including the one about the convergence, which i am watching right now, over and over again

its a masterpiece indeed and it gives me an undeniable competitive advantage against all of you online, muwhahahahahaha!

(just kidding, the file is 27 MB, too large for my webpage, but dart's page experienced some ups and downs before, so keep the faith that it will be online soon)

09-20-2006, 10:56 AM
Rnzoli, do you have any possibility of uploading it to RapidShare or sending it as an email to brewsterpilot@gmail.com?

If you would, I'd be very very happy!

09-20-2006, 01:16 PM
i am really sorry, i don't have time to upload it, and it won't fit e-mail either, these files are huge

09-20-2006, 04:57 PM
