Looking to do a re-enactment of a Mosquito mission- Which of these two would you choose- The A-20 or the Beau? The rest of it should be no Problem- just have to sub Jugs for Typhoons...........

I would select the Beau. Cant provide any substantive reasoning for that decision except that the Beau was, I believe, a tactical fighter bomber...while the A20 was a tactical bomber. Thats my 2 cents.

The beaufighter like the mosquito is quit maneveurable, the A-20 is not as close. So i'd say Beaufighter.

The Beaufighter comes closest, 4 x 20mm main armament (though 4 x .50 in the wings as opposed to the Mosquito's 4 x .30 secondaries*). Its also fairly nimble and lacks defensive armament.

*Referring only to the Mosquito's relatively common armament of 4x20mm + 4x.303

There is no replacement. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

If I wasn't already whining about something else, I'd whine for a Mosquito.

The Beaufighter was also the RAFs main nightfighter before being replaced by the Mosquito. So in this case at least, they served in similar roles.

The main difference is there performance, especially at altitude..the Beau is very slow compared to the Mossie.

I wouldnt say the Beau is that maneuoverable. COntrol authority is poor i find at the max speed it runs at ,i.e 300 mph down low

Well, Just a FYI- I've tried both in the mission , for a important part of it, will require a 1000 lb bomb, so I guess that leaves the Beau out

The Beau was used in the Pacific in preference to the Mossie as the mossie was suceptible to problems caused by the heat and humidity on the wood and glue used to make the mossie.

Same missions basically.
