Is it still possible that a so complex game like BOB be released in only a few months ? We're almost in May and there is still no new developpement news or even screenshots. With the new Vista and directX 10 beeing obviously the choice of most new games to come, do Oleg have to considerate changing few things in the game so it can last another 5 or 6 years ?
Just a tought...
I just can't wait much more longer...thats all...

December or January might be a possibility. DirectX 10 really isn't in the roadmap...Oleg and his programmers did IL-2 using OpenGL and I imagine that they'll be using OpenGL 2.0 in BoB. Hard to say for certain but given that they already developed for that API previously...they would probably just go with the latest OpenGL option.

Considering he has been working on BOB since 2003, it could be finished this DEC. I would imagine the engine will be capable of taking advantage in tech advances through the Storm of War series. Considering they have plans to model every major theater in the WW2, it could last for well over 10 years.

1C has been pretty mum for a long time.

I would not discount that they will make the Christmas season this year.

That's my guess.

The really big question is whether or not UBI will pull the same dumb stunt of waiting 2 months after a European release before releasing it in the US. A simultaneous worldwide release would be nice. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I think it will be released in late November at the latest, October at the absolute earliest.

Maybe Oleg keeps everything secret and then he'll go: Surprise ! It's done !... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
It would be a first in game publishing so we'll
keep guessing and hoping. Thanks friends !

The answer becomes simpler when you take all facts into account.

Ubi is the producer,Ubi decides when BoB`s coming out.

Oleg has deadlines he must obey.

There are few deadlines available.

The more dealines Oleg breaks the older BoB engine becomes.

Development status is still a long way from advertisement stage.

Oleg wants to keep BoB secret as long as possible.

Requirements will blast your hot PC out the window.

You will be able to run this game at 40fps with high detail ~18months after th release.

For a loooooong time you won`t be able to run a mission with 50+ aircraft.

I`m not exactly qualified to answer on this one. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

Yeah, the engine will be produced so that it looks great in 5 years time so that the series can be developed.

Dont be surprised when we have to run it on the lowest deatail 640x480! :P

Im sure it will still look beautiful.

well for what its worth - I think Oleg and 1c are playing it too close to the vest.

Look at GT KotS developement...those guys are fearlessly posting new looks at their work week after week. What is the big f'n secret.

If they don't want to show the bleeding edge of their work thats fine, but to avoid the boards completely and to hide even basic vanilla update material is a bad idea.

My interest in the KotS sim has grown in fat, lumbering strides over the last few months even as my interest in yet another BoB sim has waned.
In fact - I find myself wondering whether I will buy it at all (I will - but I can see myself putting it off for the slightest excuse)...but I know for a fact I will own KotS just as soon as I can.

Get out of the bunker Oleg its been weeks since the '46 bonus DVD

Microsoft have announced today that they will cease sales of XP in 2008. All new computers sold from then on will come with Vista.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6551429.stm

2007 seems like the worst possible time to be releasing a game that is supposed to have a long life-cycle like the IL2 series.

Maybe the main reason why there haven't been any major announcements from Oleg and Co re: SOW is because they are as confused as the rest of us.

Will it be DX10 or will it be OpenGL? This question has been asked many times on these forums but no one from 1C has cared/dared to answer.

It seems that 1C:Maddox Games would prefer it to be OpenGL. But if Vista isn't going to provide adequate support for it, what then? said the wolf.

I'd put money on it not being released this year.

For a loooooong time you won`t be able to run a mission with 50+ aircraft.

I doubt that will be true...There would be no point releasing BOB. BOB is all about having alot of aircraft in the air and Oleg has stated he will have no problem doing that with his new engine. H*ll it can be done know with the Il-2 engine, there just isn't an English map.

The really big question is whether or not UBI will pull the same dumb stunt

I have been thinking about this a bit and have a theory that it may not have been such a dumb ploy after all.

Put on your UBI hat so you think like a Software company Suit/Bean counter - a person who believes that their copy protection will be difficult to beat.

Lend an ear...

We know that the US release has no securerom on it.

This is likely the result of previous legal action against similar schemes of protection.

Therefore if UBI had released an UN-securemomed version in the US at the same time as Europe/ROW (Rest of World) I think it likely that Europe/ROW would have complained and/or bought the un secureromed version further increasing the piracy rate. But if they release a world version with functioning copy protection - and it holds then they will maximize sales in ROW. Then when that market is satisfied - then they can release the US version (lacking in copy protection) without harming sales in ROW.

At least I can see a UBI suit wearing bean counter automaton thinking like this.
