Mr. Maddox, I'm looking to the new patch and all the new Italian aircraft being added just in this patch, nevermind the G.50, G.56, Re.2000, and Re.2001. On top of that, the Italian map that is on the way. Yet there are no Italian campaigns available at all... Heck with all the new aircraft there will be almost as many dedicated Italian built aircraft in the game as Japanese, and more than Hungarian and Finnish. All three of which have campaigns available. While pondering this I came to an interesting idea... How possible is it for the community to make missions and campaigns for the game?

Yes I know this already happens but what if we were to make a full war historical Eastern front Italian campaign and then submit it for the game as an official campaign? I think it would be beneficial to the to have more "officially" released campaigns. Italy also works great for this because we already have the maps and the aircraft are on the way...

Now given I know we don't need official approval and recognition to make campaigns etc but it would help and expand the game a lot. And what the heck? Why stop there? Is there a way to release to FMB for Battle of Britain early? Maybe with the 3D view but without the flyable aircraft just static ones and all the objects?

This way there could be more third party involvement in the game. Personally, like many other gamers, I know squat about 3D modeling but I've become pretty adept mission building. You could release the FMB with mission templates for the sorties you need with a general description of what you want, along with limitations like how many aircraft, how many objects, the targets, approximate distances, times, conditions, etc. Then let us to the dirty work. This would save hundreds of hours that you guys take to custom make a lot of those missions and it would mean MUCH more content when the game is released...

Face it, when BoB is released, as good as it will be it will be pretty naked. The community is going to move from having a game that covers almost every major theater, with every major unit, thousands of missions, about two dozen campaigns (official) of the war and over 220 aircraft to a map that covers the southern half of GB, western France, about 10 flyables with another 20 or so non, about 6 maybe 7 campaigns and a much narrower array of units, vehicles, and weapons. Given I know the game will expand over time, but initially it will be pretty small scale compared to what we have. I just figured my idea would help smooth the transition and give you guys more time to work on other stuff!

I for one will lend my support for this! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Well for one I wasn't limiting this discussion to Italy. Also the Italians fought extensively with the Germans, Croats, Slavs, Bulgarians, and Romanians on the Eastern front. I know Stalingrad along with Lvov and the Crimea map saw a decent amount of Italian aircraft.
On the other hand I think a campaign would be lost in the Med map that is upcoming since it is so small... we'll have to wait until BoB for that!

For years, I've played board games where they used multi-use maps to simulate the terrain of a particular area. You can certainly do the same today using a product such as DCG to handle the persistent campaign elements. Just a thought.

I don't think you need to be official to get campaigns and whatnot done. How about a community produced Italian voice package? No small task...infact quite huge...but it was done for the RAF and we're still using that. Maybe Oleg would consider adding these sorts of things if there is time and if not we can all download it anyways.

My thinking was with the Pe-2 add-on. Oleg said Luthier and others translated over 30000 words into English for the missions. Think of all the missions and all the man hours it took to make those missions? Imagine if the Manchuria map was already released and Oleg asked that all the missions be made third party? All that extra time and manpower could be focused somewhere else...

Of course the campaigns would still have to be played through and tested which would take time, but it would still put a dent in production time.

Also it would make the game more of a community accomplishment and give it more appeal since more people would have their hand in on it...

There were some dynamic campaigns created by the community - Slovak, Romanian, Japanese etc.
To create a dynamic campaign with all files necessary is not easy task. The most laborous work is the voicepack. Then custom skins, pilot skins, data for pilot roster, single missions, medals, reworked dgen files. To make Slovak campaign it took us cca 6 months. At the end, Starshoy had to program the DGen.exe.

The good news is, it is nothing compared to map preparation http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We "don't" need MED because is reserved for the BoB serie. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

What we need is a good map for the Eastern Front....this one is and must be the italian theater for IL2, at least now.
We need also ASAP the C.200 FB. The voice pack is not very good i know......but we have it.

We'll see in the next future, we should have some new Eastern maps.

----------------------------------------
Second option, very interesting for my opinion, is the Air War Italy 1944/1945 over the North East of Italy and Yugoslavia (Croatian and Yugoslavian AF included), with the A.N.R. (C.205, G55, Gustav, Gustav and again...Gustav, and some Kurfurst http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) Definitly a little but really amazing Air Force.
---------------------------------------------

BTW, the first choice must be Stalingrad! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I was under the impression we already had the necessary maps on the Eastern Front for an Italian campaign? Specifically Stalingrad saw a lot of Italian aircraft didn't it?
