Posted in community help, but get better responses here. I am upgrading my DSL connection to 3 mbps down/ 384 kbps up and want to know if this will be sufficient to run a dedicated server. A small one. Will I be able to join said server via my LAN network? (using Belkin 5port switch/router) And what kind of hardware will be sufficient for my small server?

i think Greater Green uses about 1.2mbps at peak times. as for hardware, i've never seen the box so i can't help you there.

Yeah that connection is definatly enough to run a small server very comfortably.
As for joining your server, you will probably have to do it internaly. ALl you need to do is find out the internal IP of the host machine.
What machine specs will it be running on, then ivan can give it a thorough evaluation http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

384 upload should be fine.I run a dedicated server with 384 up with 512 megs of memory.Only an AEP 2.04 server with 13 players max(including host dedicated machine)I could up the maximum number of players but I also use the net on other machines on the lan.

You can join via lan or if you are running on HL you can join through HL.You can run on hl and join via your lan although that way your player count will not be correct.Hl only counts those that have joined through HL.Not ip or lan.

8-12 planes will be fine on that.

You will also benefit from having lots of RAM.

Any idea how much downlink/uplink bandwidth per user is required?
