is there any other good simulator like il2,where you may fall 10000 meters because you stalled and got into a plain barrene, and not like fb wher you recover from a stall in a tenth of a second. or a sim that makes the plane stall if you turn too hard not like in fb where with combat flaps you just never stall,or a sim that takes you more than one shot to down the enemy,or a sim that announces stall by means of sound or vibration. A sim that has an efective trimmer not an auto levelling key.A sim that presupose their users smart enough as not to use the cannon and machine gun in the same button.A sim tha has an efective dead zone, a sim where energy counts, a sim where the best fighter is not a bomber,a sim thas has servers that work. to me fb is just as cfsii while il2 is like european air war, quality against comerciality. i hope the guys that made il2 are working on something new now

No

Why can't we get an Accolyte into the FB? Or maybe a Multi-turret corvette...

Yes... usually two or three threads a day in this forum.

I'm just getting into this dogfighter simulation territory, via Jane's WWII fighters.

Starting to poke around for something better and looking at IL2. I take it you recommend the Original far above FB.

Curiously, that Jane's WWII (1999) programme (the graphics look good to me - particularly @ 1280 res) includes many of the features you seem to prize: stalls with sharp turns, vibrations preceding the stalls, and if by energy mattering you mean with height, it does. (You can choose how accurate - difficult to fly - the flight modelling is, from five different levels of difficulty). The success of bullet hits seems to depend on the fighter's armament and the enemy plane's vulnerabilities - it's not always easy at all. (Aren't they all like this?) The programme defaults to cannons and guns both, but you can choose one or the other.

In FB, you get a lot more planes to chose from, but the original is a better sim. And coming out with yet another Eastern Front sim was kind of beating a dead horse...

New things in IL2/FB compared to IL2:
- Level bombers
- More scenarios (Leningrad, Lake Balaton,...)
- Dynamic campaign with detailed log-book
- More eye candy
- More nationalities flying (USA, Hungary, Finland)
- More planes
- New very detailed damage model. (Takes into account the internal structure of the planes.)
- Complex engine management (if you want)
- New patches and add-ons coming up.
- Arcade mode for visualizing bullet-hits. Good training device.

Some argue the original IL2 had a better flight model. If that is a fact is hard to judge. I think the basic flight model is almost identical but they have modified lots of planes characteristica slightly. If its to the good or the worse I don't know. I believe its to the better.

Anyway, even though there are a lot of debate on the topic of flight models hardly anybody argues that any other flight sim is better.

So, in my opinion IL2/FB is the obvious choice.

Flanker 2.0 is pretty good sim. It's the predecessor of upcoming Lock On. It's ever harder to flight than the il2fb, but that why I like it. Don't expect Lock On to be a easy game either.

There is no better WW2 sim out. FB has better FMs IMO...and if you cant stall in this sim then you are flying timid or you have your settings set up for a greenhorn. Though not as treacherous and unforgiving as in IL2, the P-39 STILL will stall and still goes into unrecpverable flat spins. The jug will stall out on you in a minute if you try to yank and bank instead of working yoiur way into a turn.
As far as FB being a repeat on the Eastern front...well it isnt. It is a different sim. It looks different , it feels different, it sounds different..(the only thing that to me could REALLY be improved...sound). FB is moving west in case you havent noticed. IL2 was the Eastern front sim and it was by virtue of being the pioneer..the greatest sim of all time IMO. FB takes IL2 and moves it further. I have 5 other WW2 sims on my computer but I dont even fly them. I tried IL2 again this weekend and it STILL rocks..... so to answer your question......there are two WW2 sims out...IL2 & FB...everything else is just a game.

errr it takes longer to recover than that usually

- or a

yes you do stall flaps or no flaps

- or a sim that takes you more than one

usually takes more than 1 shot to down the enemy (or do you fly a 262 all the time?

- or a sim that announces stall

?

FB has effetive trim doesn't it?

- A sim

FB Does that doesn't it?

yes FB

Yes i think the IL2 /IL2:FB team are.

I have yet to find a game that replaces eaw. good graphics do not a good game make. janes ww 2 fighters is a good example. IMHO janes ww2 still has the best cockpits.

Well aside from the fact "raaaid" is an asshat /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif (good golly is that a personal attack /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ) the only other game I'd reccommend is Falcon 4 with superpak installed.

You can get into a nasty deep stall in the Falcon, and loose thousands of feet, and pancake if to don't switch the FCS to manual and move the stick in phase with the pitching motion of the plane, and it takes a while to get the hang of it.

In the meantime your like a big fluttering leaf with a "shoot me" sign over your head, so ya gotta avoid getting in a stall that severe lest it ruin your day.

Bearcat99 do you have flying experience? Fb doesnt even have basic flight physics neither do most sims but xplane which is the only simulation slightly similiar to actual flight.

Fb does have the best graphics out of any sim and as of now its the best but as far as a realistic combat flight sim one doesnt exist yet

After years of flying M$ Flight simulations, I nearly dropped a load the first time that I got IL2 to run on my old pc. Just the experience of taking off floored me because it was SO much like when I fly for real. I am no expert pilot, but I know what it feels like to fly a real plane. IL2, and FB may not be perfect, but I guarantee all new users: FB is AS REAL AS IT GETS! How much are the X-plane peeps paying you Leadspitter? I've flown X-plane, and really don't see what you are ranting about, unless its really improved over the last year.

is bf desert storm of battlefield 1942? because i already have the game and then i wouldnt need to get it, and as for flankers does it have the mouse view becuse thats for me the mistake with cfs series.
my favourite combatsim still is european air war though i recognize il2 is better,so far i think fb sucks im sick of having to go fully trimmed having to push the joystick half way up to go leveled. As for those who think that i dont know how to fly i got between 2 and 3 kills for every down in my first day
