Found it this night: i was fooling around Scapa when squadron after squadron of Sworfish came attacking... so i figured out there has to be a carrier nearby. So i went to the bay to check it out, and i saw a nice Illustrious, an aux. cruiser and the HMS Hood. When i got to a nice position for the carrier.

The fish blew right before hiting... the reason was this:
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m142/mishu_1907/net.jpg
The net was approx 200 m longer than the ship, 100 to the bow and 100 to the stern but it covered only the port side of the carrier
After repositioning i finally got it

When i fired at the cruiser and the Hood (sunk Hood second time on this carrier lol http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif), i got lucky, as the nets where on the other side of the ship, but imagine the surprise i got from shooting 2 eels, one after the other, that hit the fisherman's net and blew up harmlessly 20m before the Illusrious.
This are the other victims:

Gratz. Nice work.

As a side note, I'd keep that last screenie for May's Screenshot Comp. A really nice pic IMO.

Wow what year is that? I've still never seen an air craft carrier http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

After 52 patrols in my first career (39-45) and 46 patrols into this career, I finally saw my FIRST cruisers - 1 Dido and 1 Fiji, steaming too fast for me off NW Scotland, Sept 44. Apart from a Bogue, I hadn't seen anything bigger than a Tribal until then.

I once had an incident with nets around docked ships in Scapa Flow.

Someone told me to set torpedo depth to 1 meter; this way the torpedo passes right over the net and you can get the ship with trying to find an "opening"....

Liddabit, the date was 10'th March 1940.
I assume that using GWX made possible the numerous Warship encounters i had so far:
First patrol Aux. cruiser at Scapa.
Second patrol Aux. cruiser and Revenge at Scapa, Revenge again escorting convoy, and finally carnage at Loch Ewe with HMS Hood, HMS Nelson, HMS Rodney and Illustrious sunk.
Third patrol Fiji escorting convoy
Fourth patrol HMS Nelson escorting convoy
Fifth patrol Fiji again also escorting a convoy
Sixth patrol nothing
Seventh patrol Aux. cruiser, HMS Hood, and Illustrious at Scapa.
So far i have 404788 tons of warships sunk, and the next patrol starts on 3'rd of April meaning i will take a trip to Norway muhaha.

As about dealing with the net, Carotio's ideea is a good one, but i didn't wanted to risk it ( i fired 2 eels before realising that the carrier was screened by a net ) and i went on the other side of the carrier to shoot, and scored the crit.
Oh and i found another thing... while attacking V&W DD's i noticed something is wrong since the eel's go 1-2 m deeper than chosen from TDC, for example on the prevoius patrols, firing at 1 m depth with impact pistol was allways a success against V&W's, but now on this patrol i fired twice against a V&W DD on very good weather conditions 2m/s winds, good bow angle, but both torps glanced off the bottom of the keel ( meaning they went 2 m deeper than selected ). Is this happening due to the historical problem with depth keeping on the early 1940 german torpedoes? Not to say magnetic pistol is working far worst than in 1939.Anyone noticed something like this?

I never seem to run into any warships save for armed trawlers and destroyers at all. I got radio reports at times (very rarely) but they're usually too far off and I never make it in time.

I also tried to make it to Scapa flow once in a Type VIIC boat. I didn't make any contacts... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Oh well, I guess I should keep trying...

I hear yaa. I have had this game for 4 months (GREAT GAME) and I have yet to see anything bigger then a Fiji Class and only caught sight of that 2 twice. . I dont play the single missions because i dont want to kill the moment when i finally do get one of these lined up in my sight .

i assume you are playing unmodded SH3. I played vanilla SH3 for 3 months before installing GWX, and during that i never seen a big warship either. After installing GWX i ran into a task force north of Scotland, and i was so excited, i fired a salvo of 4 torpedoes at a Revenge and... guess what? they all missed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
