Hi all,

I've also posted in Community help but I know this forum is much more active. Here's the other thread:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/7321041135

Just got a new monitor and installed the game but need help with the settings. All the details are in the other thread.

I believe the native resolution for this monitor is: 1680x1050; just google it.

Now I dont think IL-2 etc natively supports this resolution and you may have to go into the conf.ini and manually tell the game to use this resolution and make sure your windows is also set to this resolution.

Open conf.ini with wordpad and at the top change whatever is there to the following:

[window]
width=1680
height=1050

Nice monitor and I hope you video board can run at such a high res free of stuttering.

Thanks Chris,

changing the res in the config worked fine. I have vertical black borders now but the picture is 39.5cm x 30cm. Not bad.

I still have to figure out all the rest of the settings. I can change water to 3 right?

If I change the aspect, won't that make the picture wrong, like I had from the beginning?

Guess it doesn't hurt to try

BTW, CoD looks really good. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Changing aspect to 0 was the right thing to do. When I fly I use the whole screen. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Now I have to figure out settings for quality.

What video board do you have ?
How much RAM ?
AND What cpu?

These will effect your settings
I believe water settings is dependent on if you have ATI or NVidia.

This explains all about water settings

You also owe us a screenshot when you get all sorted out.

Glad its working

Monitor- SyncMaster 225BW (22")
CPU- AMD64 3000+Venice
MoBo- GA K8N Pro-SLI
Vcard- Leadtek WinFast PX6800 TDH 256mb
Ram- 2x Corsair DDR400 (2Gb)
Sound- SB Audigy 7.1

I know the v-card is a little weak but that will be replaced this year. I'm gonna go SLI and upgrade the CPU.

No prob regarding the screen shot. When I get it running well I'll post some for you. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Your best bet would to make small changes to increase the settings and dropping back if the frame rate gets too slow.

Give it a try you look good to go there.

Take it easy

If your flying like that your actually loosing not only the view of the top but also the side. Its best to have it set to the native resolution and keep the aspect. This game doesn't support true wide screen and the aspect ratio your looking at it from looses quite allot of the view.

thats 1920 x1200 aspect changed

thats 1920x1200 minus the black verticle borders (1600x1200 locked aspect).

1400x1050 is what u want http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
should be something in your graphics card to stop it stretching the image.

downside is you got 2 black bars on left and right side, but u dont have your view cropped at all http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Isnt that outside the native resolution for that LCD monitor. Im new to LCD's and was under the impression the picture is not as good outside the native resolution. Although my 20" Samsung seems to do well at the next lowest res.

I don't mind having the view cropped. I rarely look at my gauges and do everything by feeling. I have my hatswitch set to look front up so I don't really lose anything.

I tried all the highest settings possible in the config file. The water looks real but it's a little jumpy. I don't like the Pacific theater anyway and tend to fly the Moscow map almost exclusively. It must be the Canadian in me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'll set the water to minimum and do the same for the trees. I'm most concerned with details of the planes.

BTW, it there anyway I can make the surfaces of the planes rounder?

"BTW, it there anyway I can make the surfaces of the planes rounder?"

I think you may now be looking to pump up ant-aliasing or anistropic filtering. Thats were you take some good FPS hits. I've reduced the detail of my trees and it worked a bit. Also set the clouds a bit lower.

I also used a little applet FS-Auto-Start that turns off services running in the background to help speed up the game.

You're at a point now were you will be increasing this and decreasing that to get the game were you want it. Keep experimenting; just backup your conf.ini. You'll have to come to some compromise until you get a 7900 GT or 8800GT video card and faster processor.

Im hooked on perfect water and cant go back.

Good luck there guy.

I'm still not sure whether I'll start fresh or get 2 8800 GTs and upgrade my cpu later this year. It seems impossible to keep up with the technology. It's very difficult to keep up with Oleg. Maybe 1 year from now my board will be too old. Maybe I'll lose interest, who knows.

I want to be more than ready for BoB when it it's finally released.

BTW, I know my monitor is an odd shape, 47.5x30cm, but it's really nice for watching movies. Although I haven't flown much with it yet, and my view is cropped top and bottom, I think I prefer it. Some how it seems more realistic as it allows for more peripheral vision.

A funny thing, the first time I posted here using the monitor I couldn't find the "Post Now" botton for a few seconds. It's about 35cm right of the text window. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Thats a nice monitor you have. I really like Samsungs myself. I have a 204B and love it. They have good response times and a deep rich color if you set the graphics right in the driver set up.

Enjoy

works fine on mine *shrug*
its semi native on mine, native vertical then the 1400 is horizontal, locks it in the 4.3 or whatever ratio, and have your video card set to fixed aspect ratio scaling, i think.

end result is effectivily native res (no blur/pixceling) no cropping of image, but 2 black bars down either side.
