View Full Version : Is the Jug better than the 190D in a online dogfight

I would like to see how these to heavy breathing brutes would do against each other when it is just the two of them available on the server. And there is a server all set to go in HL. The server is called P-47D vs DORA. To make the mission a little more intresting there is enough stuff to blow up and shoot up for 4 hours. Plus I gave the Germans the 110G2 to take care of the bombing runs, because the dora doesn't cary bombs. The Icon settings are Friendly names at 1K and Foe type at .5 From my experience I've been on both ends of each bird in a fight and from my experience I'm leaning toward the P-47D. It could be becaused I love my good ole American technology http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Build them stong and build them to bring ya home. It would be real nice to see some online experts fight it out to the death. So again which aircraft will best the other. Lets settle it in the "P-47D vs DORA" server.

I don't fly either of them much, but I'd guess the general consensus from those with experience in this realm would say that it depends on the pilot...I could be wrong though.

Thats a tough one. The Dora I find to be more responsive in a tight fight. The Jug is heavier and a little less responsive...particularly in roll (in comparison). But it largely depends on the initiative of the pilot and who is on the offensive.

I fly them both quite a bit, the P47 actually feels like it turns a little tighter(especially with the last patch). The D9 feels more nimble and quick. Ofcourse the P47 just soaks up 20mm rounds. Generally though the D9 can break off combat when it wants to.

I don't want to sound like a broken record but here goes anyway. It all boils down the pilot in the pit. My choice would be the Jug, but I have been flying her since EAW.

Dora climbs better, is faster in level flight and had better(subjective) armament.

Jug dives like a scalded dog, is tough as nails, can almost match the Dora at really high altitudes and its 8 .50's aren't anything to sneeze at.

I guess it would depend on who has the "E" advantage and who is alone...experience and raw skill notwithstanding.

My money is on the Dora http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I did a similar matchup with my squad FW190A9 vs P47D27 and the FW won, ofcourse I was flying the FW... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Have fun with the match, I really enjoy this sort of two plane type match ups http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Makes for some great team tactics. I also would recommend the FW190F8 for ground pounding since it is in the same family!

You can out turn the P47D27 in the FW190A9 so the Dora should have no problems winning a turn fight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Best approach for the P47s is to get alt and use team tactics. Don't turn fight and rely on your toughness, good visibility, plus large amo load to defeat the enemy. Slashing attacks and high deflection shots from different directions should work well. The Jug is a very good pack animal http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Above 4000 meters the Jugg will eat Fw's alive. I took on a whole squad of JG guys once, nine on one, two vulches, two damaged, and two kills later I left them all in the dust with a successful escape. Ran out of ammo, they never had a chance up there.

Like they all say it's not how good the plane is, all depends on the pilot, but if we are talking about plane characteristics here, I am a Dora flyer, but even though, i think if handled well the Jug has higher speeds in a dive, Dora accelerates quicker and climbs better, comparing ammo, 8 .50 cals to the Dora's 2 13mm machine guns, and 2 20mm MG's, like the Dora ammo better IMO. Many also dispute that Jug is a better BnZer or the Dora is a better BnZer, i like Dora for BnZ much better, probably because I don't fly the Jug very often, but good debate on here I like it. Dora all the way!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

190's are meat for P-47s at 6000+. Same down low too. The best chance for the 190 is 2000 - 4000.

The Dora is the second fastest plane at sea level http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif it also accelerates faster and climbs better

You are so right, maybe they are thinking of a different model???

As much as I lub the P-47, I would have to put my money on the 190D9. It accelerates better, climbs better, rolls quicker, and is faster at many altitudes.

It certainly isn't an easy kill for a P-47.

I give odds to the Dora below 6k and on the jug above 6k. Most fighters can't beat a jug up high but a pure SL fight is all Dora.

Jugs have quirky low energy handling and tend to float in the vertical longer than most planes which can make them dangerous during tight vertical manuevering.

I cast my vote for the jug even at low alt against the Dora. But thats only if the Dora pilot tries to turn and fight. For me the Jug seems a little more predictable while mushing around. At altitude the Jug is definately king for me.
