After constant playing since release, and 20 long patrols (i play very carefully, never uses more than 128x timecompression) and i have yet only found lonely ships here and there, and never a single convoy nor any merchants guarded by desrtoyers whatsoever.

Its now end of 1941 in my career, so i am seriously questioning the campaign function.

May my game lack of them as a bug??

Please advice anyone?

Im similar to you, i have played several patrols, and only encounter single vessels, or destroyers++ close to enemy ports.

Im not a historic expert, but i would had assumed there would be some convoys during the entire game. Or maybe, large convoys only appeard at certain periods of the war. But surely there must had been more ships sailing togher.

neg, what sectors are you going to? and are you only doing the 24hr patrol and then back home?

make it a priority to go to AM general area and sweep n/w, then go to patrol area and do 24hrs, but chances are you'll be empty on torps! gl, they are there and only picking up speed and numbers on crossing.

No i have vastely patrolled atlantic on long missions of 3 weeks and shorter ones ofcourse. I hold my thumbs though that they are there, but i havent even got a hint of their existence yet..

I mean, 3 years of hardwork patrolling really should reveal atleast a couple of convoys, or are they that rare? In latter case, its completely unrealistic and non-historical.

I've been around AM-AN-BF 1939-40, from Wilhemshaven(srry 4 spelling) mainly. The most ships/danger i encounterd, was around Dover in the English channel, but still no clear cut convoys yet. I have since restarted from 1940 in Brest, and operationg 1st patrol at AM19, and sank several individuals, but no convoys.

Early on i did stick to my patrol grid, but for a while i try to sail near danger areas looking for a fight. I will take look where you say, thnaks.

I've had awsome luck fidning them going southbound and northbound between ireland and england. Just look at the map and follow the convoy lines, eventually one will pop up.

I've picked up a few convoys now. There was one off the coast of England and one going from the US to England so they are there.

I detected only 1 convoy, a big, fat convoy, with several tankers, at grid BF16.
And this at game date 2 january 1940 (patrol 4).

Ecstatic, I sent 3 contact messages to BdU, and had just the time to sink one T2 with a salvo, before fleeing submerged.

You guys are in the wrong place. Take out the paper map that came with the game. Look at Liverpool on the map. There are FOUR convoy routes leading into/out of Liverpool. Go to where those 4 routes begin separating. It should be in the area of AM25/28/29/51/52 , and hang out there. I've been there on 8 patrols now, and found 8 convoys.

Certainly not buggy, although I would not see one myself until my 9th patrol (August 1941, Flotille 1). I was sent to AM53 from Brest and received two convoi reports from BdU on my way there, updating me twice. The Convoi was easy to find and stalk, de facto passing the assigned AM53 at some stage, minus some tincans that kissed my torpedos some time before. Then again, AM53 is sector for three major convoi routes. The large convoi I encountered in August 1941 was most likely a Halifax-Liverpool one, only guarded by one DD -- if that is of any interest.

On my 2nd patrol (1939) I bumped into a completely unguarded convoy: Large Tanker, C2 Merchants, etc. near AL36. They were like sitting ducks... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Im on my second patrol (October 1939) and I have a VERY juicy convoy coming right at me; it looks like no escorts are in sight and I appear (for the moment) to be well outside the aircraft range. This looks to be right on the route that guillan was talking about.

1st patrol ran into un-escorted convoy in AM sector. I used map and patroled on convoy route. Got radio contact report and I was in business.

i found so many convoys around Am-51-53 that i can't count them. it is filled with troop ships and have found my first convoy with a large passenger liner in the mix with plenty of tankers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Every convoy heading into Liverpool has to go through AM53, it's a sure thing. There are also quite a few task forces in AM53. To the south, there's a lot of traffic in the BF13-15-17 area.

Actually anywhere near the coast of Ireland is good hunting. During my current patrol I engaged a convoy in AM53, a task force also in AM53 (sank a Bogue), and I just sank another Bogue in a convoy just west of Ireland on my way back to Lorient. It will be quite the triumpant return if I survive the depth charging I'm about to receive.

All those patrols and no convoys? I've run into three only in 12 patrols, but then, I hope you boys have had destroyer evasion practice. When you find a convoy, you'll know what I mean.
Try a realism setting above 80%

Try also close to Gibraltar.
Sometimes convoys are quite good - last time I had 4 troop transports + 2 tankers + some other small vessels.

Try grid BE 62 and surrounding areas.
I have lot of tankers there and sometimes a nice juicy taskforce.
