View Full Version : Pacific Conflict - Semi-New PTO server on Hyper-Lobby

So's...I was flying along in ol' Bessy the other day when my tail-gunners' voice rattled through the squawkbox, "I'm bored." I took a look at my wings and sure enough...no gaping holes or missing ailerons. The instrument panel showed full oil pressure and a remarkably benign engine temp. The smell of fuel (usually preceded by aquiring the aforementioned holes) was strangely absent.

"What the heck?" I thought. Then it came to me in a brilliant flash of insight.

In March I started a topic in the PF forum singing the praises of the AG-51 Pacific Conflict server on Hyperlobby. That was six months ago and while occupancy has improved considerably it can be quite sporadic.

"So, what's going on?" I asked myself. I mean...PC has historical objective based maps. Plenty of ground targets for ol' Bessy. A dedicated Teamspeak server. Tons of bandwidth. And a pretty good bunch of guys to fly with. So then, why-oh-why, am I not...at this very moment...seeking a good stretch of beach to crash land on?

The answer?

Marketing!

I left out about a third of the on-line community! Maybe more!

So, for those of you who don't regularly check the posts on the other side of the fence here's a link to the original topic:
Pacific Conflict - New PTO server on Hyper-Lobby (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/7211027724)

Check it out. Read what others had to say. Or better yet...hop on Hyperlobby, find PacificConflict and see for yourself!

Hurry! My gunner is starting to take potshots at the Coast Watchers...

Jeez...we're going to have to start paying you Crash! Better yet, I'll fly low, slow and straight and you can pick me off all night long! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Heck, I oughta be payin' you!

Besides...my motives are purely selfish (although I can't imagine why I seem to enjoy getting shot down over and over and over).

LOL! Hilarious! Thanks CM, appreciate the good press.

We also have a forum of our own, and welcome constructive comments to better the maps.

BTW, we now have something of interest for the non-japanese flying axis-types...Operation Dragoon is in the mix now. Using the Guadalcanal Early Map to simulate Southern France, Allied Hellcats and Seafires are attempting to soften the German defenses on the ground and in the air. 109G-6's, 190A-5's defend the southern beaches. The weather is poor, so you'll likely get some chop as you dive in on the enemy artillery positions or try to land your beat up bird.

PS: I'll get some historical background on Operation Dragoon (a.k.a. Operation Anvil) in the mission brief per your request Crash_Moses.

Our current map rotation is {UPDATED: September 6th 2006}:

<span class="ev_code_RED">
Ver. 4.05m

1. Okinawa Dogfight (late war, non-historical DF only - with ground/sea targets) 120 mins
2. Guadalcanal (early war, semi-historical, objectives) 120 mins
3. Operation Dragoon (late war, historical, objectives) Guadalcanal Early Map - 120 mins
4. Midway (early war, historical, objectives) 120 mins
5. Pacific Fight (late war, non-historical, objectives) Palau Map - 120 mins
6. Wake (early war, semi-historical, objectives) - 120 mins
7. Seaplane Base (late war, non-historical, objectives) - 120 mins

I really enjoyed flying on this server today, Flew in the Operation Dragoon Senario & thought the 109Late vs the F6F was really good. I have often wondered if the Luftwaffe ever encountered the Wildcats, Hellcats & Corsairs of the Royal Navy/USN.

Well done gents & see you on line in the future

You're welcome! Glad to help out...

Yup, I like that map too. I don't fly the German planes much (except for the Stuka) and it's an interesting scenario. Especially without rudder trim! (My legs are all cramped up still).

As for the historical background, I just figure that will help folks with their suspension of disbelief and help avoid that "What the... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif?" response (or some of the other...ahem...responses).

Other than that...all it needs are...more SBDs! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

man id love to fly in a good PTO server. but i HATE the no map icon setting wich is the only resone i stoped flyn in ZvW....well that and how it seemed to become zeke vs spit lol. i wish someone would come out with a PTO server with the settings of warclouds. there was a server i flew with you CM back about a year ago. the whole CIA squad loved that PTO server though i dont remember the name. any way it went away for some resone.

Ah yes, I remember it well...that was back when I had broadband.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif Thanks a lot! Why don't you just give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice in it while you're at it! (grumble...mutter...grumble)

Yeah, navigation can be tricky. I study the map and note headings and what not and the mission briefings usually have more than enough info to get me pointed in the right direction. I actually enjoy navigating by dead reckoning now (still get lost on occasion though...kinda fun trying to find your way back). Heck, I have most of the maps memorized now. In fact, I think everybody should memorize them. Only one way to do that though...

Find me and shoot me down!

nyah nyah! Can't catch me! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

Well, ya know, when I first really started getting into this sim I actually kept a daily "war diary" . Keep meaning to update it but I procrastinate.

I'll see if I left a clue in that when I get home. Not that it's really relevant but now I'm just curious. Kinda like trying to think of an actor in a movie and it's right on the tip of your tongue but you just can't connect the neurons...

Great and awesome server - I've been flying there lately with TUSA and my Blitzpig friends.

For me to say this is quite significant, as I don't normally fly PF all that much.

I love both the red and blue plane sets and have had a load of fun both occasions that I've flown on this.

Server down due to storms in Florida. Be back sometime tomorrow. Sorry all.

Crash_Moses
08-17-2006, 09:02 PM
I wondered about that. Our factory down there stopped production because of 'em. Takes them an hour to get everything up and running and as soon as they do..POW...the power goes out for a few seconds. Talked to the office manager at around 1600 and he said the sky was black as ink.

Are you sure the Lightning Capital of the World is the best place to keep the server? Heck, you can put it in my basement if you want. You just have to get me a broadband connection...please! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Couldn't get on tonight anyway. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Two St. Bernards showed up at our door looking like they'd been roughing it for a few days. One full grown and the other a puppy. Animal control won't come out to get them until tomorrow so we had to lock up the inside dog, bring the outside dog into the basement and tie the two visitors up in our open air dog kennal so they don't jump out and eat the goats and chickens (at least that's the reasoning my wife gave me). She had originally wanted to bring them down into the basement where the puppy (biggest dang puppy I've ever seen! Bigger than my two dogs put together...) would be free to chew on anything it wanted. Managed to talk her out of that (just had to mention big muddy footprints on her new carpet...hehe).

All this despite the fact that her brother (who lives about 300ft away) has a huge enclosed dog kennel currently in-between occupants. Her reasoning? She didn't want to "inconvenience" them. "We found 'em so they're our responsibility." http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Wellllll, I wouldn't call what I was doing flying. Maybe technically. I mean my wheels were off the ground a couple times but after that things pretty much went downhill. I guess I'm kinda used to the SBDs built-in "CHECK-6 Mk.V" early warning system.

Also, the US forces on the Pacific Fight Map (Pelau) no longer get an airstart on Babelthuap. And ship AA has been further suppressed there.

Hey Ernst, I added the FW to the airspawn mid-island so you can get a jump on altitude. No need to take a 10 minute grabbing flight anymore.

Also, we're thinking of switching to IL2 Server Commander and we'll have a stats page in...mmm...say two weeks!

Okay, we're a go with the IL-2 Server Commander. Hawg got it up and running tonight. Actually figuring it out will be the next few days.

The main thing we'll be using this for is its ability to give notification of which grid is under attack. Larger maps and maps with multiple target areas can be better defended and offer more fun for the fighter jocks.

Stats are being tracked now, but the stats page is still coming.
