I read about Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.
a while ago, and their music really captures the sound from that period.

You could also search under music of the 1940s, but i'm not sure how good the recordings are. Maybe you are looking for the grainy sounds from that time period.

This should fit the bill if you are willing to do some work...

Over the years for such material I have consistently gone to the University of Missouri - Kansas City site here ...

http://library.umkc.edu/spec-col/ww2/1939/jive.htm

They have some nice stuff there. But sadly their material is in rm format. But worse still they only stream it!

So what I do if I find something I want from this site is to download the streaming file and save it. Then I open it up with notepad to find out where the rm file really is.

So that I see this...

rtsp://media.library.umkc.edu/ulibs/ww2/Section5/d/ReportToNation.rm
--stop--
pnm://media.library.umkc.edu/ulibs/ww2/Section5/d/ReportToNation.rm

Then I use Net Transport to download the rm file by cutting and pasting the rtsp portion

rtsp://media.library.umkc.edu/ulibs/ww2/Section5/d/ReportToNation.rm

So then I have a rm file that I need to convert. So I use this open source converter.

Direct download from here ...

http://www.videohelp.com/downl...Coder-0.7.2.4582.exe (http://www.videohelp.com/download/MediaCoder-0.7.2.4582.exe)

A bit of a chore but the results are worth it to me.

Net Transport is available here...
