OK, this seems like it's another cheap n' cheeesy sim, but some of you might be interested. Some nice skins though. Good floatplanes. Sorry if this is old news.

I wonder how they are avoiding the trademark issues....

Sorry I messed up the pictures, As you see I'm not the Duke of URL. I forgot the best pic.

Is it even out yet?The screenies are a year old.

I don't know how accurate this sim will be compared to Oleg's, but what makes me fustrated is that I already see two different classes of American Battleships, a Carrier class, and other ships like Japanese Cruisers that they claim we will never get for Pacific Fighters http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Visually, it looks like your flying in a painting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I read the interview with the creator and he describes it as an "arcade style game".
It's being made for XBox, PS2 and PC.

The fleet shot makes a great wallpaper.

04-10-2005, 08:51 PM
Definitly not a sim...but it's something the sim industry has needed for a long time...an entry level interest generating title.

04-11-2005, 04:17 AM
I saw the trailer and its no sim but it does look like allot of fun. Think BF1942 on steroids

Yes, and the original shot is HUGE (3508x2480). You can just get lost in it.

The original shot:

Here's some more shots that aren't on the official site. I can't remember where I found them.

That is a very cool floatplane.

I dont understand why there is no ADD_ON for PF or anything for that matter. The MS CFS series keeps going ONLY because of end user add-ons. There is alot of talent out there going to waste.Alot of people would be happy to bang out those ships, or anything else, and get around the copyright thing...as its a freebee....

They need to figure out how to do freebe user add-ons for this sim...

Choose your wingman ??? Can I get Maniac from Wing Commander III ? He was one great wingman.

Anyway, welcome to the community setback (great name, btw) !

1. You can read in: http://www.hsgamers.com/previews/heroesofthepacific.php
That the developpers intended a fun and arcade game.
2. PF is still essentially an add-on, not a new game. This sim is originally meant for the eastern front. Oleg replied with "no" on several occasions when someone asked of there will ever be carriers in Il-2.
3. even with all the shortcomings. I still think that PF is the most realistic and historic pacific flight sim ever. With all the limitations of a three year old engine.

04-11-2005, 09:20 AM
4. On the website of this sim, I've seen the names of some aircraft manufacturers. I hope they have a license to use their names... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Granted this isn't a true flight sim. But take a close look at the movies. Look at how rich and detailed the enviroments are. Look at how detailed the pacific islands are compared to the Half A** baloney that 1C gave us.

Furthermore Mr Platypus_1.Java your wrong.
Pacific figters was sold and marketed as a stand alone product. Look at your PF box again!
If it was an add on it would say you must have IL2 to play this game. If it was a add on there wouldn't be stand alone installation instructions in the readme file.

They turned out a product that wasn't even close to being finished and lost there butts sales wise because of it.

Here it is 5 months+ since the release date and we still don't have the planes that Oleg himself said were left off due to lack of CD space.

Direct Quote from Pacific Fighter Readme.
We simply ran out of space on our 2 CDs and had to remove some cockpits for
several flyable aircraft. Free add-on containing these aircraft will be made
available at www.pacific-fighters.com (http://www.pacific-fighters.com) for a free download.
end of quote.

Sorry for the rant. I play this game more than any on my PC & have for a year and a half now. But I am really sick and tired of the blind Oleg Fanboy ****.

Thanks Capt. T for the welcome, it's much appreciated http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I would have joined in years ago, but it took me until now to come up with a name http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I really like your name though, you and Bo_Nidle have the best names in the forums.
Like someone else said, I now spend more time reading the forums than actually flying...so why not participate.
Any more hermit airmen out there? It's really quite pleasant once you're in!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Microprose' 1942 Pacific Air War was and still is a more complete sim of the PTO. And it runs on a 10 year old engine.

04-11-2005, 02:15 PM
Can we get the Microprose games free as abandonware ? Or even for a small fee. It would be great to play the old classics again.

04-11-2005, 02:32 PM
Regarding the Sim/not-a-sim debate:

So what?

One of my favourite games is PF Merged.

Another one is Ace Combat 5: Squadron Leader for the PS2.

One is a flight sim. The other is an action game. Does this diminish either game? Absolutelly not.

Sometimes you feel like flying a fully-accurate P-51C. Other times you just feel the need to strap in and blow the **** out of a Fulcrum withouyt having to worry about trim and stalls.

Really, is "fun" something that can be simply tagged into a game box as a Sim/Not-a-sim label?!

Sometimes you feel like Chess. Sometimes you feel like C&C.

Sometimes you feel like PF. Sometimes you feel like a bit of comic-book action.

I'm betting you could find 1942 PAW on eBay or maybe 1942 PAW Gold at some online store if you look diligently. I have my orginal copy.

Just did a search on eBay for "1942: Pacific Air War". Currently there are 3 like new in the box for sale, as low as 5 bucks.

And I'll bet anyone could find a decent old DOS capable PC at a local thrift store as little as 20 bucks or so.
