View Full Version : Desired Additions...

Its been some time since I offerred up a proper whine on these forums, so I thought to list the aircraft that are not yet flyable/unavailable and priorities for myself.

Arado Ar 240 twin engine fighter
Henkel He-219 twin engine fighter
Messerschmidt Me-210 twin engine fighter (flyable)
Messerschmidt Me-410 twin engine fighter
Arado Ar-234 jet bomber
Dornier Do-17 twin engine bomber
Dornier Do-217 twin engine bomber
Dornier Do-317 twin engine bomber
Henkel He-177 twin (quad...) engine bomber/dive bomber (!)
Henkel He-277 quad engine bomber dive bomber (?)
Henschel Hs-132 jet dive bomber
Messerschmidt Me-264 quad bomber
Junkers Ju-288 twin engine bomber
Focke Achgelis Fa-223 dual rotor helicopter

Kyushu J7W1 Shinden push-prop fighter

All of the twin engine "fighter" types are my true priority here; what can I say... they have great character. The 210, the 410, the 219, and the Hs-132 to me are the most appealing (important maybe not - not a good word - but intriguing).

As for the Fa-223, it would be superb if I could wait for my wingleader`s group of 109s to *maybe* clear a path to a dropzone so I could land and have my squadron`s 32 paratroop veterans leap out onto the field. Or allow me to hover around the enemy airfield and riddle the control towers with the door gunner machinegun fire, nevermind any outdoor enemy infantry. *Or* allow me to deposit a light artillery piece on a strategically important hillside. I know the 223 never really entered service, but if we have access to dynamic campaigns... . Besides, a helicopter would be even more variety in the game. The Fa-223 also has some striking architectural aesthetics to it.

Btw, I WOULD pay money for an expansion pack that consisted of nothing but additional flyable aircraft.

Anyway, guess it isn`t really a *****, but I`m in the whiny ballpark...

I really dont think this sim needs any more new planes. I say, work on the MISSION BUILDER and game play things. I think that if you just made it more enjoyable to play what we have, well wed have a more solid base to add planes to.

01-20-2005, 11:31 PM
But new planes are quuuuiitee tempting lol http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

01-21-2005, 02:49 AM
did you already flew all planes which are in FB/AEP/PF now? If yes, how often do you fly them? Remember, we are still waiting for the G4M Betty, the Pe-2 and the Ju 88 for months (years), which some of the most important planes for a ww2 sim.

01-21-2005, 07:40 AM
I'd rather we concentrated on AI/Flyable planes that saw significant action. For example:-

Hawker Tempest V
Hawker Typhoon
De Havilland Mosquito IV
De Havilland Mosquito VI

and the Griffon_25th's comments about the mission builder seems a good idea.

01-21-2005, 03:22 PM
I`m definitely not opposed to any of those aircraft - more is better - but my list is a list of planes I most want to fly.

I also would be the first to agree that the mission/scenario context needs to be brought up to the standard of the rest of the sim itself.

Enough planes? Disagree... reminds me of Bill Gates and 640k of memory (grin). You can never have enough flyables, unless your roster ends at "all of them". As for how often I fly them... often enough. That is kind of akin to asking a CounterStrike player how often he uses the Desert Eagle or the P90, and then potentially predicating their removal on the response, isn`t it? Or of predicating a decision to release no further guns for CS because the guns already in use are very popular. Or not. I don`t see a correlation here to availability... as if a lesser degree of usage somehow should disqualify an entry. Just because *I* don`t fly the YP-80 doesn`t mean that it should never have been bothered with - other people who wish to fly it can. And who knows: if I desire to take it up in the future, **I can**. Besides, if all the planes in the Sturmovik series "are enough", then why are we waiting for the G4M Betty, the Pe-2, and the Ju-88?!? Those are the planes many wait for, these are the planes I particularly wait for.

Just because a plane is there doesn`t mean I wish to fly it. I fly what I want to fly. I am not going to fly a plane I hate (not that I hate any, necessarily) - its a game, and I`m having fun. That`s one of the great things about IL-2: you can exercise choice and enjoy yourself.

Improvements to the mission contexts and the addition of new flyable aircraft are not mutually exclusive endeavours.

Ya, the arcade gamers Whining about "too many" planes never come out and say they don't want Pe~2 and Ju~88. No~Way~No http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Very Smart to include "gothic" He~219 on the List there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
(inside joke for another here)

You "forgot" He~100D though, bad Bad simmer

I agree about adding more planes. The Pacific theater needs a LOT of them, but even for the eastern front there are a few very important german planes (like the ones you listed) that are not there even as AI. I would like to have every single WWII plane as flyable in this sim, but I'll be happy enough if I see every plane that was built in significant number (say more than 500) and saw combat, even if they are only AI. Diverse AI planes add a lot to the immersion of this sim (although for online players they make no difference).

01-21-2005, 05:39 PM
AI can be a great help to online play, filling out the ranks in online wars. In real life
pilots didn't know if they were about to engage Rookie or Ace, online you would not always know
if you are facing AI or Humanoid. Indeed, one of the neat things to do is for Humanoid simmer and
Humanoid wingman to try flying like AI, and if Humanoid opponents think they are AI...hehe

I always said you can not divide online from offline play on the basis of AI. Both need AI development.

WUAF take out that big pic its messing with my head...I mean the thread

ya to more planes, flesh out british and italian and japanease, everyone else is pretty well sorted tbh.

many appose bombers, cos they cant pretend tobe hero's of the lw, or russia, or whoever else they fly for. also apose PR aircraft cos they dont have guns http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif. some german general in the 30's said "whoever had best photo recon would win the war". he was proved right http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

in germany fighter aces where praised... and rudel. in the uk and italy bomber pilots where praised, and photo recon pilots. real hero's of the raf flew whatever plane they where given, and did a daamn good job with it.

from flying at 42,000ft to intercept ju86 photo recon bomber (scared them away) to flying down the main street (and looking up at the bulidings) in cities to express deliver bombs to the gestapo, to delivery a bomb that bounced with deadly presion, to saving american bacon in france with rocket typhoon's (american soldier said the air moved his hair when typhoon had pulled out of its dive flew over the forest. probably cos it was doing 500mph http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif with the engine screaming at 3800rpm http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
slowing the pace somewhat, the fairey swordfish fliers who flew in all weathers, protecting convoy's, scaring a powerful navy, and surprising enemy fight pilots with amazing manoverablilty

italian hero's flew 3 engine bombers and torpedeo'ed ships, japanease hero's would sacrifice there lives for japans 100 million.

onwhine aces just wanna shoot down lots of ppl, i just want todo the most damage to the enemy, and fly the best i can http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Fighters</span> were assessed by their results -- whether they shot something down or
not; but for us, we had to be assessed by how well those we accompanied carried out their
work. They fulfilled their duty, so, and I fulfilled my duty together with them. We were
all together in one, on one airfield. They take off on a mission, and we follow. They arrived
home, went out to smoke, they were cursed or they were praised. But they bombed, but we
seemed not to have done anything. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

More bombers are always welcome, out of the big list of German planes, only a few would be good additions for now:

Do-217 (Later on)
Ju-88 (188/288 Later)
Arado Ar 240 twin engine fighter (Perhaps Later!)
Henkel He-219 twin engine fighter (Perhaps Later!)

Also, dont forget the:
HS-129 and HS-129/WA
Bf-109T (Carrier 109's!) The 109T's fought in Norway, thier long wingspan, spoilers, and GM-1 boost made them great for use as high altitude fighters, and for use on short strips. Im told that the last ones were finally knocked out of service in 1944. These should be simple mods from the current 109E's...

Edit: If you want the He-219 and the like, how about the competitor plane, the Ta-154 ?

01-22-2005, 11:33 AM
would be nice have J52 and C47 too

01-22-2005, 12:55 PM
I like that Handley Page Heyford biplane bomber. That would have to be one wierd fly experience compared to the monoplanes. And I`m always astounded by the maniacal dedication the cutaway schematic artist must`ve had (!)...

01-22-2005, 01:44 PM
yep, one of the merlin is increadible its like http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

if you throw in the 109T you gotta have the
Fi-167 dive bomber intended for carrier ops
on the Graf Zeppelin. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

think they where just gonna use stuka and 109T, in the end

01-24-2005, 11:58 AM
Do217(bomber and night fighter!), Do17 and Me210, maybe He177(the famous quad zippo...).
The He219 is a nice dream...
Want more, isn't realistic, i think http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

The most probable is the Me210, already able for AI, and I have already seen some cockpit screenchots somewhere, not sure. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

But, actually, I prefer see the Ju88( which is already finished) in the game, than screenshots of other new planes...

01-25-2005, 09:21 PM
I have to admit I`ve fallen in some degree of love with that He-219 ever since I saw Dai... something`s signature picture (sorry - can`t recall his name).
