Woofiedog, another fan. Great http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I am waiting for this also as I am a big fan of Douglas Reeman. The MTB stuff he writes is brilliant. Hopefully this game will be a good'un.

-HH-Dubbo... I haven't read any of Douglas Reeman's works, but they look like some Very Good reading material.

I just finished Destroyer Captain, by Roger Hill, an Excellent book about British Destroyer's in WWII.
Also be starting up another book soon called Dog Boats at War, by L.C. Reynolds, this book is on the British MTB and MGB's during WWII.

Why am I always the last one to know about such neat stuff? Looks like there arent any cooporate lawyers messing this one up. Just a couple days ago I was lamenting how neat it would be to man the AA guns on the ships we have, and even the ground AA. Looks like I must be telepathic, or maybe just pathetic. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Akella has become famous for its marine games based on cutting edge 3D sea technology. Our company now offers a new level of realism and graphics in the upcoming simulator PT Boats: Knights of the Sea. Start your career in a mosquito fleet of the Allied Forces, Russia or Germany and take part in bloody World War II battles.

Take command of a boat and control each member of the crew. Shoot down aircraft using machineguns and anti-aircraft guns, torpedo hostile destroyers and supply ships, "entertain" uninvited guests with cannon fire, plan group attacks €" essentially, do whatever you like. Any operation can be entrusted to the AI or handled on your own.

PT Boats: Knights of the Sea is powered by an improved version of the STORM 2 used in the award wining Pirates of the Caribbean. The STORM 2.5 engine enables the creation of unique special effects like ocean waves from explosions, tracing the tracks of various types of boats, illustrating the boats gliding, realistic collision damage, damage from assorted types of ammunition and so much more! Our close cooperation with 1С/Maddox Games, the leading flight simulator developers and renowned for IL-2 Sturmovik, allowed us to create historically accurate and detailed aircraft models.

features:

Never before seen 3D water quality
Historically accurate WWII war-machines
New level of realism for ship physics
Choose single missions or build a career as an officer in campaigns through the entire war
Control different crewmen on your boat - from the gunner to the commander
Realistic ship damage
Highly detail 3D landscapes
Control Allied, German or Russian boats - everything can be under you command!
Up to 16 players in multiplayer game

Hmm. Flying between British Island and Le Havre in the B-25 takes so long I'll wander downstairs and make a sandwich mid-flight. Marine sims are even more slow-paced. I'll wait for the reviews I think.

That second screenie of the gunner's position reminds me a lot of the first level of MoH: Rising Sun, except it looks far better. 1337.

Divine-Wind... you might want to check out New PT Boats video trailer. It has a better view from the Gunner's postion.

I thought the sea and sky was incredible in SILENT HUNTER III---this item is plain fantastic. German S-boots vs Vospers---what cut and thrust!

Problem for KoTS is the subject in specific, not in general. Whereas the Eastern Front air war was very suited for a combat sim, the Eastern Front naval was is too esoteric, too limited, and I am afraid too boring a subject to achieve a wide appeal.

Naval combat games already suffer from lack of success, an Russo-German naval conflict will epitomize such lack of appeal (outside Russia and limited to some niche enthusiasts).

Much smarter would have been to include a campaign in the channel or med, and widen the scope.

Fighting the Soviets in the Black Sea does not make for an in depth naval campaign game. Just count the number of major axis vessels in the area?

Ostsee? Perhaps a little better, but again, how many major naval actions did take place historically?

KoTS will need WESTERN campaigns, or it will become a miserable sales failure, at least outside Russia, at least that's my 2c. and some.

People who like ships and the sea won't care if it is about the Swedish Navy in WWII. The information on the site states it is about Allied, Russian, and German motor torpedo boats, not just Russian. I would buy it for the sea and the sky---I've never seen such fantastic digital painting, absolutely amazing. I hope they prosper and do simulations for big ships which have been sadly lacking since the bumper crop in the '90's.

big ships and small ships seldom mix well in games, not from a simulation POV and MP. The mix becomes very difficult to master in such a gaming environment.

We'll see how this one turns out, but I am not beguiled by graphics and promise alone.

And if you wish to have a good WW2 naval sim, you will care if it models the Swedish navy, or a major naval power. If the Soviets used lend-lease boats, it is easy to make that boast.
