When you pick the better planes and fly them so you can be a "winner" isn't that kind of like picking a team as your favorite after they win the Superbowl/WorldCup/Tour de France?

How many people wanted to fly the Ki before it beat ar$E?

Yup,I know what you mean.
I like 76ers for instance becuz they SUCK.My ride of choice is Me109G6early becuz it sucks compared to La5FN.

Every success in those are trippled by the joy of achieving something.

I fle the Ki for the first time yesterday.I rarely have so much fun, kicking P39 **** where it`s very good ie in turnfights.

Will stay with G6early though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Although I totally agree with this way of thinking, I also understand why some need the gratification of accomplishing something. It can be frustrating to be a newbie when you are easily beatable by someone with moderate skills.

I've always flown ****. My current ride of choice is the P40M. I don't score as much as some, but when I do, it feels like I've accomplished something... especially when the kill was made against a superior ship.

Flying **** planes build good defensive tactics.

Some days I take out a FW190A-4 in a free for all dogfight server and show that its just as capable of BNZ as the A-9 or the D-9 is http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I get much too bored to fly a single plane the entire time anyways...I usually switch around and try different aircraft.

I enjoy flying the B-239, not because it is the best (though it is quite good) but because it's aircraft that takes a little skill to fly well, and it's amazingly fun both to look at and fly in.

99% of the time I fly **** planes. There is the 1% when I want to see what I can do in the studs planes and man, it's a world of difference. Bottom line I guess, one can't it personally on a df server when you get tore up by a uber plane while you're flying a **** plane. Most of online flying is in coops where I've exclusively flown the 110. To treat myself, I'll swtich to a G2. So, when getting into a La-5 or P-39 is like stepping into a Tie Fighter.

indeed... LA family of fighters is the best fighter family in ww2... that is unquestionable for me. but i prefer G6 and most of the time i fly Bf109's.

i'm by no means newbie, but when i got on LA's six and he goes zig-zag, man you have to be very, very patient not to lose it. on the second thought, P39 too... it is the best american A/C in FB if u ask me.

I've loved the P-51 for 45 years. I knew I was going to fly it no matter how it turned out, and that's what I do. I only leave it for the P-40, P-47, and P-38. When we get the Wildcat, Hellcat, and Corsair. I'll be in those too. Do I like the American planes? You betcha.

Its sometimes fun to fly planes with vices and shoot down better performance planes, For example shooting down a 109 in an il2, but its mostly luck .

Sometimes it is very difficult to say what planes are better or worse.
Many belive that the lagg3 was a bad plane but infact it was a fully capable fighter and the armament was good too. The problem was the uneven production during the war. They were often produced in haste and two aircraft from the same productionline could be different in characteristics.

Well....anyway ...I think the funniest fights are the prolonged ones...even if I would loose.

I dont fly the 109K because its among the best planes in the sim.I fly it because its the very zenith of Bf 109 development, where all the very core of design`s essence come together, a single, short range, devastating cannon as armament, suited for close range shooting, whereas a hotrod engine in clean, small airframe allows for closing on the target quickly and easily, and disengaging at will by climbing away, thanks to the excessive power compared to the size of airframe.

I think it`s quite natural I like to fly the finest example of my favourite plane. The 109K behaves more of a 109 than any other model. It`s a perfect example of the thought, the very essence that was behind its design: the most powerful engine in the smallest airframe possible!

"We've got the finest tanks in the world. We just love to see the German Royal Tiger come up on the field".
- Lt. Gen. George S. Patton, Jr. Febuary 1945.

"One day a Tiger Royal got within 150 yards of my tanks and knocked me out. Five of our tanks opened up on him at ranges of 200 to 600 yards and got 5 or 6 hits on the front of the Tiger. They all just glanced off and the Tiger backed off and got away. If we had a tank like that Tiger, we would all be home today."
- Sgt. Clyde D. Brunson, US Army, Tank Commander, February 1945

The 'essence of the design' can only be found in the first instance of any design. All subsequent offerings are meant to cover up the 'essence of the design flaws'.

You fly the best because you want the best. There is nothing wrong with that, it just isn't a forum-friendly thing to say.

Well, call me shallow, but I love flying aircraft because they look great. For this reason I cannot wait for the Tempest V and Spitfire XIV. If people say I'm glory-hunting in the best fighters available then so be it, but boy will I look good meanwhile! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Personally I think the saying 'every man to his own' counts above all else here. Does it really matter that some people like the best planes? The way I see it, if you choose a low-performance plane because you like it, and then get beaten by someone in a hotrod Kurfurst or La-7, you've got no complaints. You wanna beat 'em? Fly a top-of-the-range fighter. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The P-63 and P-39 are my main rides. I've flown the P-39 since day 1 and I've wanted to fly the P-63 ever since I heard it was going to be added to FB.

If neither is available then I fly whatever. In Pacific theatre if I can't get on the American team I'll fly the Zero even against a packed house of P-38's. Unless there's a P-38 talking trash about how he's kicking butt while taking the easy route of B&Zing then I have no problems hoping in a Ki to humble said braggart.

I love all the planes. Just the other day I decided to do a quick battle. I flew the I-153 together with the CR.42 and the Gladiator vs. the ME-262, HE-162 and the GO-229. I had to fly the mission 4 times just to get past the first wave but when I finally did get passed I shot down 4 aircraft. 2 He-162's a G0229 and 1 262 it was very rewarding. But I love all the planes.

Ride of choice is the 109g6/as with a 20mm when axis and a P-40 when allied. Sure i get shot down but, Id love to see the looks on some peoples faces that fly the hotrods when they get shot down by an inferior plane.

I think, flying a better plane usually don't give you instant success. Better plane usually requires higher skill to fly properly, and there is still a lot of satisifaction when I sit on a better plane, use my skill to drive every bit of performance out of it to my advantage, and get my kills.

I often heard rookies yelling that Mustang is a poor plane because it spins too easily in sharp turns. You know my point, right?

Allied: um...allied planes...allied planes, whats an allied plane? Oh I like flying Hawker Hurricane Mk I against early 109s and 110s..if I could fly the Moranes I'd fly them too. P-39 is maybe my favorite American plane.

When I fly in a dogfight server, I usually tend to stay with a plane that I know. I sometimes fly something unusual for me, but really I am just testing stall, turn, roll, etc.

My all time favorite rides are FW190 A-5, and FW190 D-9. I was kind of disappointed with the Ta-152, but I am not sure of it is the game, the FM, the DM, or just an overestimated understanding of what the plane should do.

If I fly allied, I usually play with the USAAF planes, P-51C being my favorite, however I do enjoy flying the P-38, but am not very good in it admittingly.

For IJN planes, the Zero is my favorite, even though I tend to fly it as an energy plane and not a turner unless I am up against P-40's mainly.

And last, but not least, I like the I-153 for **** plane sets.

Oh, if given the option, which I rarely see http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I like the Me-262 in a late war setup, but I dont like the stutters associated with 4x 30mm cannon! That's why I would rather fly the A-2.

I used to fly P39 a lot. But, online I usually get shrd to pieces. The cannon is seldom very efficient: Few rounds, hard to hit, tremendous recoil and even if it hits it doesn't necessarily down the target. Also I find it difficult to handle in turnfights. Bf109' usually outfly me. It is probably because I am a lousy pilot.

Nowadays I use the Yak 3. Very fun plane to fly. Small and quite powerfull so it accelerates and handles nicely. It hasn't very powerful guns but I do occasionally down a newbie.

Well I have not posted on this forum to often because of the overall climate.

Since I have been a Spitfire and Hawker flyer since CFS. They are the only planes I trully enjoy. However, the competition of the later FWs and 109s is hard as heck to lure one down from there lofty heights and there dive speed is quite amazing and how some are not backing out, I dont understand. I still enjoy winning with an inferior bird and will enjoy the 9c,and HF when they come out.

My main ride is the P40. It is my first choice whenever it is offered, even in late war scenarios. My second choice is either the Gladiator (hope we get the English version at some point), or the Ki84, which I wanted long before any of us knew how it would be modeled.

I anxiously await the Ki61 in PF as well...

That said I will fly anything offered if necessary.

Being new to online flying, I try to choose a plane that look good and is slightly inferior to the rest of the planes currently on the server. I can't fly a plane that look ugly (mainly P-40, La's or the P-47). I take care in choosing skin to match the plane. Kind of narcissistic, I know...

Anyway, if you get shot down in a mediocre plane, you can justify it to yourself and the rest of the server. Not the opposite. Good strategy, isn't?

Cheers,
Johnny Ramone
