I couldn't take off if I wanted. The Ar 196 isn't flyable in this sim. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You should have named the thread "Arado 196: engine performance drops-off at sea-level" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The first Ar-196 in that video had one large float in the center and two smaller ones on the wings (a la A6M "Rufe"): looked like it lack on-water stability and hence the hard shaking caused the engine compartment to fall off.

The second Ar-196 in the video had two main floats which looked like they offered better balance. Also, both planes had the pre-war Swastika markings indicating that these were possibly tests being conducted on the planes.

Weird how the seas were so rough, and the camera is as steady as a rock. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I don't think that pilots like to fly in an Ar-196...Look at his face.
That must be the reason why it isn't a flyable plane in IL-2 but just AI

Could it have been the amount of seawater hitting the prop that caused this? Ok, slamming into the seas is bad, but the plane is supposed to sustain a couple of g's. A properly mounted engine shouldn't fall off like that.

Anyone noted the sausage launchers in the wings?

Is it loaded with Frankfurters or Weisswurst?
