Hello y'll

Any one figured out how to install swastikas yet? I like the correct markings. I had the hakencross patch(?) for forgotten Battles/Pacific Fighters, it won't work in 1946.

You can run the IL-2 Stab program in the background. It has an option to restore the full historical markings.

Alot of pilots in the Luftwaffe were far from being Nazis. And you have to watch out with this kind of comment, for this is what gets a flame war started.

I'd like to be able to use MAT Manager, but the thing is just so dang cluttered that is bloody confusing to use.

I won't tell you how good I feel when I turn many an allied a/c into a sieve with my FW190 (without the 'Goodluck' symbol)

Use il2-Manager 5.00 (not the same as il2 mat-manager) - its an easy button click to activate swastikas, as well as loads of other stuff, but not in a cluttered way http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

That put me off for a while, too, but I dove in eventually. Yes, it's cluttered and confusing the first time you use MAT, but one you use it a couple of times it actually starts to make sense. Use it a couple more times and it's a snap.

Besides, the markings are ace! Makes a huge difference to the appearance of the aircraft, especially with the default skins. In fact, with MAT some of the default skins look as good as some third-party made skins.

Here's a RAAAID-ish question about swastikas and 1946. If the war made it into 1946 or beyond, then obviously someone other than Hitler, Goering, and Goebbels must have been in charge. Perhaps the attempt on Hitler's life was successful. Would there even be any swastikas in such a scenario?

Trueman died, yet the USAF continued the use of the white star on blue with bars. Yes, the swastica would very likely continue in use for as long as Germany would fight. You don't discard the sumbol you have been fighting under for years, even if it stands for questionable values.

I agree with Petter. The swastika was a symbol of victory for the better part of the war. Today it symbolizes something else but a lot had to change first.

Rather unlikely. The german eqivalent to the white star always was and still is the iron cross, or in its simpler form the balkenkreuz. Only the Luftwaffe used swastikas, and only because Ging as head of the Luftwaffe wanted to brownnose Hitler with this "party" symbol.

Good point Bewolf, but I think the nsdap icon appears on the front deck of Hilers "big stick" the Bismark as well.

Yes, she indeed did. But those were for aerial identification purposes mainly. The same reason german tanks used swastika flags on their backs. But all those were temporary and purpose motivated, not a standart.

Seems a man can't ask a simple question these days without getting a political diatribe.

Marv: Don't know if this what you are exactly looking for, but it works for me on 4.08. It has none of the frills of Stab or Mat Mgr, but gets the job done. It's a small program that runs in the background and only puts the swastika (Finnish & German) on the appropriate a/c.

The link is at the bottom of this page.

Try here - http://www.checksix-fr.com , the sites in french, but click pacific fighters (works on 46) and then utilities and you should see it listed - il2 manager 5.0pf

The link below should go straight to the download I think. The only thing this util may not do is change the new water setting to the maximum, as they added a higher setting in 4.04 onwards (ie after Pacific Fighters) but you can change that manually in the conf.ini file - which this util actually is a front end for, in reality, for all the other settings.

This one works flawlessly. It's super tiny and runs in the background. Start it before you start the IL2 exe and as long as you're in an aircraft that had them...you got'em. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The swastika symbol can be found on many cultures, specially some very old ones from asia (buddhism). It symbolizes the rotation of the world, and many other things. I´ve read an interesting article some years ago about that, and it´s easy to find some information about the swastika over the net.
