Hi all,

Before I start on my evening's work on the next version of IL2-MAT Manager I'd like to post the following appeal for anyone who could pass onto Oleg.

Those of you that understand how IL2-MAT works by copying MAT files into the games' \PaintSchemes\Cache folder will understand that with so many MAT files there are bound to be delays in displaying the markings.

What I'd love to see, if at all possible is a change to the program to allow the user to choose whether or not the cache folder is cleared when the game is launched and exited, maybe by an extra setting in the game's conf.ini such as ClearCache=0 or 1.

This might be an easy or difficult task to code but it would make a huge difference. If the default was "1" eg. clear the cache then those not running IL2-MAT Manager wouldn't even have to worry about it. The huge benefits to those who are running IL2-MAT Manager are that:

1. As the cache wouldn't be being cleared there would be no need to run IL2-MAT, instead I could change the code in IL2-MAT Manager to copy directly to the Cache folder.

2. There wouldn't be any delays in displaying graphics because there'd be no file copying on game launch.

3. Free of concerns about the number of MAT files being copied I could produce many additional MATs and increase therange of markings optins.

Please pass this on to Oleg.

Thanks and Regards

Thanks guys,

Hi DHQHeadTrauma,

IL2-MAT & IL2-MAT Manager are programs which allow the user to use "alternative" aircraft markings. Below is a link to the online version of my current program documentation. If you have any questions them please e-mail me and I'll happily try and answer them.

Guess I havent been reading much in the last few weeks... I havent seen any disrespectul posts in a long time.

You must have cleaned them up.

Oh, back on topic... Il2MAT is da bomb!

I really dont quite understand why Oleg hasnt just incorporated it into the game. The only visual thing I have ever been displeased with about IL2 is the way the default national markings look in the game. Aces and his band of merry men have really hit a home run with their work.

I wonder if Oleg has tried to apply it to the game and look for himself. It's very nice indeed!

Great addon for a great sim!

"I really dont quite understand why Oleg hasnt just incorporated it into the game"

My thoughts exactly!

I mean, they took a huge leap forward by incorporating community skins in PF (My eyes hurt when I look at some of the default skins-no disrespect intented of course)...

The next step should be markings!

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifIf we can control the symbol in game, it should be more effectively. Now we use IL2Mat, but it will load many files, a full set of mat for one country is about at least 5000-7000 mats, it will casue the lag if you load all files. In fact, you will note the obvious lag when you load more than 3500 mats in game after start up.

So if Oleg could allow we control all output mats class, we will get a perfect solution. There also should be another way, that make all symbol files in different folders, so we can change the files as ours. Now it's in package and can't reach by ourselves.

The Mat is for 3D model, it seem a list for loading texture.

But I also wonder if Oleg worry about the cheating on it by someone. because someone can make the symbol shine and highlight etc, use them in game in order to indentify enemy more easy.

Just gues...

Of course it isn't a lost cause-Devs have a lot on their plate, so it's up to us to keep this on their front door the whole time. Lost cast?? Pfff....That just makes me want to go:

Hi McWolf,

If Oleg changes things so that the Cache folder isn't cleared there will be NO delay in loading the MATs because they won't have to be copied at all. This way there can be as many MAT in the Cache folder as one likes.

Lag in the sense that you refer to it is the time delay in loading copying the MATs not, of course to be confused with lag in a network sense.

As far as cheating is concerned, if someone want's to go to the trouble of editing MATs and/or graphics then they can do that right now with or without IL2-MAT, they have always been able to do so and wait for the game to load and then copy them over. In over two years of working with IL2-MAT I have NEVER encountered such a case. AFAIK IL2-MAT users like to use the supplied markings to get more historically accurate and alternative markings options, that is certainly my motivation.

If someone, somewhere is cheating then it's certainly not prevelant amongst the vast number of regular IL2-MAT users and, as I say, they can do it anyway with or without IL2-MAT.

Best Regards

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gifYes I mean the time delay.

But it may be a good solution that let the cache folder not be cleaned, so we can mod all mat files, all files will be there. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi all,

I apologise for my somewhat pessimistic comments yesterday. Sometimes I get very mentally tired working with the program etc. When you are as close to the program as I am, and have been for the last two years it's easy to get impatient. A week isn't much time when looked at in this context but of course it can be when one is working on the program just about every evening and all weekends http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Back in the very early days of IL2-MAT, two years ago I well remember the "heady" excitement that I felt that we could display our own markings and that there was something that could be done to substitute markings for those used in the game. As things developed and I started creating more and more markings and broadened the choices to include many optional alternatives I knew that and interface such as MAT Manager would be the next logic step forward. The combination of the two programs, IL2-MAT and MAT Manager has worked well over the last year but the next major step forward must be to have one program not two and instant display of the markings with no load delays. That's why I am both excited and so looking forward to this being a possibility.

BTW, I still get a real "buzz" when working on new ideas and markings. My enthusiasm now is just as high as it was two years ago and your support, advise and encouragement every bit as important to me.

Cheers

Hi all,

I have some very exciting news to share with you. I just exchanged e-mails with Oleg and he has very kindly said that he will include the option in the conf.ini to clear or not clear the cache when his programmers have time. I know that they wish to investigate the issue further but I'm really boyed by the prospect that they are working on this.

Again a BIG thank you to you all for your support and encouragement.

Please express your thanks to Oleg and his team.

Cheers and regards
