View Full Version : Battle Of Britain Running At IFC!!

Seen ???BOB??? very pre beta running at the IFC (International Flightsim Convention) Birmingham, up and running a Year before release, not complete, but Wow are we in for a treat.

The graphics engine looks gorgeous, kept thinking I was looking at hi quality video, it was sharp as a pin (on a 17 inch ish monitor though) and runs smooth on an AMD 62fx processor. Note! This chip now actually runs slower than Intel???s new E6600, which is much cheaper, for those wanting to upgrade.

Oleg was letting people try BOB out, Spits and Hurries on Me 109???s and the models were superb in the advanced lighting effects.

The cockpits, are as sharp as you see them in the gallery, with high enough frame rates to not even have to worry about it, runs hell of a lot smoother than some of the Microsoft FSX installations on show! . Oleg did admit that it was running on a high-end graphics card. I did asked weather it was going to need Direct X10 and Vista in the future, the answer was ???No??? from the Ubisoft rep.

Another new addition was real wind affects, and how wind is affected by clouds was demonstrated, that went right over my head and out of the window!!

Il2 Sturmovik 1946 was on show too, and is up to the usual high standards, great to see the wing men stick to me like glue, problem was they were so keen to get in on the fight, they nearly didn???t leave any for me!! Good to hear it will be on Dvd with the whole il2 series included that will help with new installations, Christ think of having to load that
lot up again in the future, including patches one by one??????.. well sorted now!

While at the Ubisoft stand I heard that a couple of real world Pilots had came to the stand and congratulated Oleg and the team, on there great sim, telling how they love to play it, you can???t get any higher praise than that, I think they found it quite humbling! All I can say is that they deserve every bit, well done Oleg and team, keep up the good work. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif I am not worthy!

Point to note that I forgot to write in the report, Ilya said it will be a dynamic campain, outcome dependant on how well your contribution to the campain went, and you can play on either side, I think that means the Germans could win the battle of Britain!!!!!

Are right the sound was off so I can't report on that.

Also you can man Anti aircraft guns !! saw that in action looks difficult as the real thing.

Right from my own experiance it all machines there were running 7000 series card probable 7900gtx's they were smooth, and Oleg did cringe when he said bob was being displayed with a high end card.

Another point to note, I did not see any German bomber formations which would slow things down a little, but in il2 on my 7900 pro could do realy well with many aircraft and still does until next week, I have just recieved a 8800 gts card just waiting on a motherboard http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif Happy.

Hope this helps.

Also there is some pics of the show, in the pacific fighters forum under the... hope to see you there... discussion.

It looked like you could be ground crew defending radar stations, Ilya had a go and blasted the radar!!!! HE was giving the sight a good lead on the plane but the radar got in the way http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif!

The gun I would say was the quivalent to the German 88 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

DOnt worry about the performance, PCs will 'grow into it'

Better to make it look amazing now, but run slowly, so that come 10 months time, its running smoothly on mid range systems http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Plus with Intels new Conroe chips, they have raise the CPU bar again, I bet Oleg and 1C didnt plan for that to happen, as such BOB should run just fine CPU wise.

AMD will likely counter again before BOB is releases, meaning faster chips for all.

cAnt wait to get in the AA guns :P<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It's good to know there's a working version of it, however basic.

Also looking foreward to gunning down a He111. It's payback time!!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

More on BoB
What I can say is that what was on show was very limited, the ground detail looked good, fields and hedge rows, typical home counties, but I didn???t see any buildings or any airbases except for a few guns and a radar mast.

More on the aircraft modelling, there is more detail than anything I have seen before, seamed like every rivet/screw glinted in the sun as the planes did turns, curved surfaces looked perfectly curved, what I???m trying to say is that they are much more complex.
Others at the show may have sean more, so we will have to wait and see if they post anything.
