Since we got the neat lights in v3.03 (white, bright white, red and green) I got an idea for landing aids on carriers.

We've all been wishing for a way to assist landings in cockpit-on mode, but there's no paddle waver or "meat ball mirror" to be seen.

But how about this:
Place landing lights off the port of the carrier (or immediately over the port bow), say a row of four white lights at the same elevation as the deck. Then view a track with a "perfect" landing with a caught number-3 wire and memorize the angle (get a fix on the lights!). After this open the FMB again and place red lights behind and below the white ones at the optimum angle.

The effect of this should be a sort of landing aid, where you'd see four white lights when you're on the glide slope, and the red lights over the white ones when you're too high (likewise the red ones below the white ones when you're too low).

I realise the glide slopes vary some from plane to plane, but this would be an indication of how you're doing at least. Since I suck at the FMB I'd like someone skilled at building missions to try this out. Does this sound doable, or am I rambling? (Or maybe this has been discussed before...?)

S! We've added a sort of VASI light system to our carriers.

Read about it here. (http://www.raf662.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=42;t=000768) Get a download of night mission, with all 8 carriers with lights here (http://www.raf662.com/modules.php?name=Downloads) It's in the IL2FB Dogfight Mission section. "Carrier Night Light Hard Landings"

Thanks!
I'll D/L it when I get home and give it a try. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

That sounds like a great mission. However, I had some problems with it. Whenever I'm semi-close to any of the carriers and the carrier is in my FOV, the screen turn almost all white (this probably means that all textures don't show up). If I look away from the carrier, the view goes back to normal. Are you using some object that is in 3.2 but not in 3.3?

I don't think so MrQBerrt. As far as I know the lights are all part of 3.03 and the carriers are original CD. We're all using it in 3.03. Are you using the new exe file? I had problems with textures and maps not loading with it, so I went back to the original il2fb.exe. I suggest you register on our BBS and ask the guys that created the scenery, they'll be more likely able to help you.

S!

I have had that problem before. It was my video driver (4.11 and 4.12 ATI & Omega). Went back to the 4.10 ATI and it's perfect.
