Ok...so I had a partol mission that was near the south coast of Ireland. I went the long way around to get there...but the english channel was so tempting but I didn't want to get caught there. I was wondering if anyone here has gone through the English channel and do you recommend it if you want to survive? I don't think its a good idea but I've never done it...and besides there are a ton of ships sailiing around england and I used up all of my torps before I got to the patrol zone. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I almost got to see my first convoy...it appeared on the map as a radio contact but I couldn't find it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

I did it once and will never attempt it again. I encountered torpedo boats and destroyers a few times. It is shallow so you are doomed if they see you (I got through undetected but it was close at times). You are not going to find any convoys there so I think it is just not worth the risk. Be safe and take the northern route.

I went through the channel a couple of times-but I didn't liked it. Now I always take to north route via scapa flow. There are also a lot of targets there and the water is deeper, but starting with 1940 alot of planes appear.
If you plan to go through the channel definetly go during night. In case there is some fog you are lucky.

Yes I went through the English channel when I was located in Bergen, Norway, and I had to patrol some part in the South Atlantic Ocean. Good practice to avoid Cruisers etc.

As your map shows you, the English Channel - and the zone south of Ireland, are zones with heavy traffic (England - Halifax convoy route etc.)

i use the english channel - its ok if your carefull and stick more the the french coast end of it. Just be aware of everything u hear and see and plot avoidance as you go along. the waters shallow but its not that hard to get through really if u take ur time. I got hunted by 3 destroyers in same vicinity but at 20 mtrs i was able to use the hydrophones and play away from them at all slow speed, keeping them in my rear end sillouette.

more fun than going up north and around the long way as well. :P

I noticed there is convoy traffic shown on the map...but I also know that there isn't much space to dive. I want to try to survive my campaign as long as possible...I can always reload my save if I die but it's just not the same after that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif So I will avoid the channel...at least in the campaign.
