After trying several of the new aircraft for 1946 I have the say the most impressive one so far is the Lerche. It seems to be the new uber weapon in the IL-2 series.

Lerche is not a weapon. It's only what happens when you eat caducated yoghourt.

Took it up and learned how to land it.

Complete clown car. Fun, but too unreal to take seriously, or even in jest. There is no control system that was available in 1946 that could have worked like the one in game does.

Probably just a prototype for helicopters in the upcoming RRG Korea scenario.

I had some laughs with my buddies as we crashed numerous airframes fooling with it, so it's not a real game stopper at all. As long as it does not end up in a serious server online.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I can't imagine that scenario El - true afficionados wouldn't go that far.

AS to the helicopter aspect - my view is that after hovering the Lerch...you can see where this engine is close to handleing that aspect of flight, but did you notice the sudden fuselage counter-rotations in hover that occur with power adjustments? I wonder what a true helicopter airframe - with a tail rotor slaved to the rudder input would handle like in this '46 code?

What do you think?

Would someone buy this code from Oleg and do a Korean war era or Vietnam Heli sim if it could be shown that it is workable?

I would love to see a Bell 47D modeled and implemented in the '46...just to see what it would or could behave like...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yes it is.
As soon as i knew how to land it with its "air-brakes",i think i handle it as easily as a Me109-F.

However,it seems that its best counterpart in the red side is the I-250,at least concerning the bots in Ace mode. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Otherwise:
Spit25lbs,La7,YP80 in ace mode alltogether against a one and lonely Lerche + Mk108= All downed!

Has anyone tried to go up against the Lerche? It is hard enough to even catch it let alone down the bugger. I swear that the Lerche is actually the Golden Snitch in disguise, it is that hard to catch. The only two aircraft that can intercept it are the YP-80 and another Lerche.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Agreed. It`s really just a fun clown car, an experiment in what IL2 devs can do and had fun doing. All the other aircraft I can take relatively seriously, but not this one.

I`ll never fly it as part of even a `what-if` Germany carried on into 1947 as it`s just too impossible for reality.

The nice thing is we don`t have to use it. We can bet it`ll NEVER be in any serious server and so realistic aircraft will continue to enjoy a long life. This aircraft will be on ALL the `arcade` no cockpit servers and guaranteed to be used by those who aren`t really bothered about WWII flying and dogfighting or who just need a rest.

As for the new `uber` plane and FM complaints about it, it`s a completely pointless issue and worries me not in the slightest. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I appreciate the chance to see what could be possible for the future if Oleg wanted to do a Crimson Skies type of game one off.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Well, I managed to shoot one down @ NormandieNiemen last week. The driver got the h3ll out from over our base because there were too many of us Reds around, and yeah, those things are fast... but he _still_ made a mistake of thinking I'm _not_ following him in that Spit IX... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Yep, they're surely clown machines, but what's wrong w/ playing silly buggers every now and then? I actually registered a HL nick solely for that purpose yesterday, so if you see some numbnut called "LederHoseRakete" a*seing & crashing around in a Lerche you'll know it's me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The Lurch is Ubisoft's Great Post-WWII Joke (to borrow from Monty Python). It's like "flying" while strapped to a hospital gurney. May as well throw in a 1960's James Bond jet pack in the final patch to complete the most ludicrous flying machine set since CRIMSON SKIES!

I think we need Dumbo the Flying elephant. It at least flew. I know I saw one back in the early seventies. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

How does the AI handle it?

Has there been any QMB quick experiemnts with lots of friendly/enemy AI Lurches?

A good test of limits may be QMB AI Lurch vs AI Lurch.

Another limiting test would be QMB AI Lurch vs AI P-11c. I bet the P-11 side wins. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Quick tests of Lerche:

(100% fuel, 110% power. No missiles.)

Top speed at SL: 690km/h
Ground start accel to 500km/h: 23s
Ground start accel to 600km/h: 40s
Climb from 50m-5000m: 1:44

No prop plane, whatsoever, competes with this aircraft. Even jets get a run for their money in every department except top speed.

For comparion, a UFO in it's own right, the Spit25lb takes 55 seconds to reach 500km/h from a ground start, more than double of Lerche.

Only the jets and rockets can fight the Lerche competitively, and only if they strictly avoid turnfighting.

It's not an uber plane. You can down 6 planes with it and then get the hell out there.

Has a low ammocount for the cannons.

Tho it's fun to land it.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Well, i never understood this WW vs FR debate........i fly whatever settings i feel like at the moment. But seeing a Lerche on a WW server would put even me of..... and thats saying alot, trust me.

Even when i flew on the first 4.07 server with only the new jets, more or less a server where everyone fooled arround with the new stuff, i couldnt help thinking to myselfe "now, there`s a ufo if iv ever seen one" , never thought id use that figure of spech and actually mean it word for word http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Was fun taking it up and land a few times, thats it.

Pretty much all the other jets, sure....but the Lerch, no, not even on a WW server.

I would be extremly supprised if it showed up on anyone of the bigger regular WW servers.
